Most of their fans are saying Martins and Devos are pulling the strings on most trades and decisions, so Hennigan was likely just the one to take the hit for bad ownership.
We all saw this coming. Among several other bad decisions he made, I still don't understand the rationale for the Ibaka trade with Biyombo and Vucevic already on their roster. Sam Presti brutalized Hennigan.
What the hell are the Magic doing lately? They seem to be in perpetual rebuilding mode like the Sixers and Kings.
Drafted Hezonja ahead of Stanley Johnson, Devin Booker, Justice WInslow, Myles Turner, Keylly Oubre Drafted Gordon ahead of Exum, Smart, Randle, Saric, LaVine, Nurkic, Gary Harris Drafted Payton ahead of LaVine (specific to one guy here as that just didn't make any sense at the time to me and still doesn't, though Payton isn't horrible). Drafted Oladipo ahead of.... well, no one, outside of Giannis picked way later, that is a **** draft. But then traded Oladipo for an expiring Ibaka, that didn't work out and he had to trade for peanuts. Signed Biyombo to $17 million a year. The answer to which sucker GM will completely overpay Biyombo was Henningan. Signed DJ Augustin to $7.5 million a year. Signed Fournier to $17 million a year (a fair deal... but just consider in last season's spending bonanza he decided to go with $40+ million a year on Biyombo, Augustin and Fournier) Passing on Cousins?? Fine, Cousins isn't a winner. Overall, it was VERY hard to be a GM of a lottery team the last half decade. There just haven't been a ton of drafts that weren't 1/2 heavy. That said, you can't miss so repeatedly. How do I submit my resume.
