Donald Reagan and Richard Knickson must be rolling in their graves.

    RIP Republican Orange County

the old conservative stronghold is dead enough to merit an obituary:

All 7 districts will be represented by a Democrat, a once-unthinkable prospect in the land that spawned the modern-day GOP.

The death shocked everyone who hadn’t bothered to pay attention for decades.
County boosters and leaders had desperately tried to mask its failing health with a series of anti-immigrant resolutions, orange-shaped balloons at Great Park, and a string of increasingly vapid reality TV series. But as the years went on,
the Orange County of old gradually succumbed to a new generation of working-class unions, multicultural youngsters and middle-class voters who just didn’t care about demonizing the downtrodden, except for the homeless....

The GOP still dominates local politics, and the county’s median household income of $90,000 remains $25,000 higher than the state’s. But in the current decade, a new generation of Latino activists successfully sued O.C. cities to implement district elections, and has begun to get more minorities elected. And those few millennials who could afford to stay in their parents’ paradise increasingly voted for Democrats — and frequently visited evil, evil L.A.

The rest of the nation finally noticed the new Orange County during the 2016 presidential election, when Hillary Clinton garnered more votes than Donald Trump — the first time O.C. went for a Democrat in 80 years. Liberals pounced on the breakthrough with millions of dollars in donations to local Democrats, an invigorated volunteer base, and a slew of first-time candidates.

Trumpism is wounded but not dead — far from it, in fact. No matter how Trump tries to spin the election as a referendum on a presidency that he won — he didn’t, as The Times Editorial Board makes clear — his brand of politics comes out of Tuesday’s election less appealing than it once was. But, warns the editorial board, it’s still the dominant force in American politics.

The LA Times, owned by a billionaire bio-pharma CEO, is akin to the NYT and WaPo brand; it's quick to point out this change
    in the political landscape.

on the flip side, the OC Register is akin to the Washington Examiner; it has not yet provided an analysis of this political change

Orange County is affluent and fairly well educated. Educated Republicans have turned their back on Trump. The only people remaining are the dumbasses.

It's official. Democrats take over the district long held by Republican Ed Royce, who retired.

the OC has been the cradle of modern GOP / Conservatism

on the other hand, The Trump party has co-opted the GOP, including but not limited to Putin-friendly as well as attacking / spewing lies
about American war heros,. in this Case, Adm McRaven, who had led the SEAL team that had captured bin Laden

the OC is for American War heros and anti-Putin

What happened in OC this year was truly amazing, but as soon as the GOP begins showing sanity, most should flip back red in 2020.

In the very unlikely event Trump is the GOP nominee in 2020, those seats may stay blue for a while longer.

What do you mean unlikely? Who in the GOP has stood up to him with any success in the last two years?

Who is to say GOP will not produce another Trump or someone even more extreme than Trump in 2024 and beyond? For all the talks of how Democrats are extreme, the GOP have became far far more extreme in recent years, but the party base would not look in the mirror.

If the Trump base comes out and vote the GOP can't do anything. GOP is getting its mission accomplished. The weren't expected to win this election. Trump did it for them.
