You know... some people complained a lot about JVG allegedly forcing the signing of former Knick veterans costing roster spots that should have gone to younger more promising players.

I was thinking about it... most these guys didn't hang around and cost us roster spots for very long.

There is one old former Knick (one of those "savvy vet" who plays "defense", too), though, who has been hogged a roster spot much longer than any of the more often discussed ones (Ward, Oakley, Jackson) on the Rockets roster.

In fact, not only is he still hogging a roster spot, he has a good chance to be continuing to hog a roster spot next year, too.

Shouldn't we be more upset about this dude than the Oakleys?

You've gotta be kidding. Deke has stepped up each year when yao was out. And how much is he being paid a year? Alittle over a million for only a year? Its not like he's even in a multi-year contract. How many younger backup centers in the league can produce half as much as a 40+ year old center in Dekembe? With an all-star center who has unfortunatly been injury prone the last few years, Dekembe is our best insurance with a low price.

Ill take Dikembe over 90% of the centers in the nba right now and next year

Dikembe Mutombo as a starter will have amazing numbers reb and block wise. I take him over Shaq anyday!!

Sometimes I feel like you start up thread topics just to stir things up.

And don't forget that the Adelman/Morey combo has also given us an aging former Knick veteran who takes up a roster spot that could've gone to a younger more promising player.

    This dude:

I would rather have 40 year-old former NY Knick Mutumbo manning the middle than these current Knicks:

Dude . . come on man, I know everyone has there opinions on players now and then about certain critera . . But dude, you're talking about Mt. Mutombo here, if it wasn't for him and his mad dominant in the low post blocking/board self, we wouldn't have won the 2 games now without Yao! . . do you realize how much you have OD on some drug that I don't even want to know?

Yup bro, I suggest you start getting some help, but as of now, Mutombo is our key low post defense!

    OOOOOOOSTERRRRTAAAAAG!

I miss that guy. He was the perfect big, lumbering white guy. It is an inferior NBA without Greg Ostertag to make fun of.

Which reminds me... what coach/GM am I gonna bash when Isiah finally gets fired!? :(

And where's Isaiah Rider? I miss him being such a cancerous asshat that his teammates looked ready to beat him.

This former Knick fits the title of of the thread and he's not even playing

(except for the "savvy vet" and "plays defense" part. and his fat contract enabled the Spurs to want to "dump" Scola, so...)

Deke at age of 42 is still within 15 best centers in the world.

I get what you're trying to do with the sarcasm but the only reason we hated those "former Knick" players was b/c they sucked. Mutombo does not suck. So yeh, this thread fails.
