Phelps was great, but I'd have to rank the US finally reclaiming the Gold in Basketball as higher up than swimming. It's been such a long road getting back to the top where we belong. And this time, we did it with CLASS. I, for one, was jumping up and down at 3 in the morning when we finally won that game. I even got just a little misty-eyed watching the medal ceremony.
Id put Phelp waaay above Redeem Team- this coming from someone who lives for basketball and has never really cared for swimming... He made the world watch someting spectacular, he got people who would never be interested to become rapid fans He did something unfathomable- 8 gold medals. eight. that still is just incredible to think about. not only was he versatile, he was dominant. He was an entertainer as well, winning one race by .01 He inspired a country, and he was amazing to watch. The Redeem Team was a great story, however, we were always supposed to be this good. It just took some ymca ideology that we needed a team, not a collection of players.
The US basketball team is supposed to win the gold, year and year out. Anything less that that is a major disappointment.
