I don't usually feel this way for national media pieces on the Texans, but this was actually a very well written write up. I agree with just about everything it said.
A starting Pro Bowl MLB. Plus I dont want dead money with Thomas or Morgan especially if they're not on the field.

The Lions coach may, however, sweat for a few hours today until he learns whether he has to adjust his offseason offensive planning to account for the loss of tailback Joe Smith. B.C. hasn't passed through the option-year window unscathed just yet. The CFL's leading rusher last season has a workout scheduled for today with the NFL's Houston Texans, who would force the Lions to think hard about their run-first approach from last year if they sign Smith to a contract. CFL players heading into their option years are eligible to sign in the NFL after every season. And Buono historically has made no attempt to extend the contracts of those with a window of opportunity to head south, saying the Lions are not in a position to make an offer that could match even the minimum rookie salary of $295,000 per season in the four-down league. A contract extension offer for Smith awaits if today's deadline passes favourably for the Lions. "I'm hoping to stabilize our best running back and offensive line," Buono said earlier this week. It's simply the timing of the workout that will keep the Lions on edge today. Option-year players have until 1 p.m. today to sign in the NFL before their rights revert to their CFL team. It means Houston basically would have to offer and negotiate a deal for Smith on the spot. The option-year signing period opened last month, when Smith's agent was quoted as saying his client had drawn interest from the New York Jets and Chicago Bears. Houston might have a bigger need, however, finishing 22nd among the NFL's 32 teams in rushing yardage. Veteran backup Ron Dayne is also heading into free agency next month. Smith did not respond to a request for an interview Thursday. lullrich@png.canwest.com
Here's some info... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Smith_(football_player) He lives in Cleveland, TX and set the CFL's single season rushing record last season (1510 yds, 5.4 ypc, 18 td's, 2 fum.). He's certainly worth a shot...
alge crumpler anyone? just got released by the falcons. i know we already have owen dnaiels, but crumpler would definately be an upgrade and also help the passing attack.
i'm not sure Crumpler would be either? seriously, i don't think it's enough of an upgrade to warrant doing considering Daniels is probably a lot cheaper and has more upside.

Linebacker Zach Thomas to visit Texans By JOHN MCCLAIN Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle The Texans are bringing in free agent linebacker Zack Thomas for interviews next week. Thomas, who was released by Miami last week, is touring the country and visiting teams that are interested in him. New England, Dallas, New Orleans are among the teams considering signing Thomas. The Texans are placing centers Mike Flanagan and Drew Hodgdon, tight end Jeb Putzier on waivers today. Meanwhile, the Texans were investigating recent charges against receiver Jerome Mathis who was charged Sunday with choking his pregnant common law wife. Next week, the Texans are not expected to tender a contract offer to Mathis, meaning he would becpme a unrestricted free agent. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5552918.html
Big fan of Thomas but with our limited budget, I think we need to make other moves, especially when we already have DeMeco. Not sure how serious McKinney's injury is/was, but we don't really have a C on the team right now.
When McKinney was on 1560, he said he may be limited on OTA's but he will be good to go come training camp.
