I know it’s preseason but I am drinking the Texan’s coolaide this season . It seems like the perfect storm is brewing. The talent is here, some of it is now or never and the youth is coming into their own. We’ve shown the ability to control the clock on offense plus the ability to make the big play. The defense is mended as well as it’s ever going to be. The time is now.
Not to mention that they have one of the easiest schedules in the league. If things go well, they could go VERY well.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...ien-Same-workload-Deshaun-Watson-13161558.php The strategy Texans coach Bill O'Brien has adopted for preseason games is beautifully simple. O'Brien believes in preserving his key players for the regular-season grind. He's taking a cautious approach with their workload during preseason games that don't count. That includes limiting star quarterback Deshaun Watson to five snaps in the preseason opener a week ago and not playing J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus, Benardrick McKinney, and Tyrann Mathieu. O'Brien is happy with the work his players are getting in practice. He doesn't anticipate altering the plan Saturday in the second preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers at NRG Stadium. “I think it would be about the same," O'Brien said. "We just ran about 150 plays in two days in 100-degree heat and those guys you’re talking about, most of those guys got probably 50 reps in two days. So, that’s just really good work.”
This has been his policy the whole time he's been here, but I wonder how many injuries are caused by not conditioning properly in the preseason. The Texans had damn near their entire team injured last year, if that happens again this year, perhaps we re-think the idea of skipping preseason.
Hope Watson actually plays, but reading that quote from O'Brien means he probably won't play much at all.
Watching the Jags play the Vikings reminds me why the Jags aren't a real threat despite their stellar defense. Blake Bortles is just garbage.
Bortles is a poor mans Joe Flacco. Garbage in the regular season, shows some resemblance of a decent QB in the playoffs, carried by stellar defense with transcendent player(arguably in Bortles case). Rather have Flacco than Bortles and Flacco is trash.
