Would've liked to see him run for something statewide first. I thought he would've taken on Abbott or Cruz last year but that didn't happen. Had there been a competent candidate in the race for Governor, it might've been interesting when you consider the outcomes. That race ended up being closer than people realize even with the terrible candidate that was facing Abbott. It would've likely matched the results from the Senate race if Castro had run...maybe even a few more would've gone the other way. I like the Castros but I don't see where he has a chance to get the nomination. I'd rather he give Cornyn a run for his money.
Agree... perhaps this is an opportunity to elevate his stature on a national stage and in the process issues of importance to him to Texas votes.
Hmm... don't know if its realistic to plot out his path, but here's one analysis... How Julian Castro Could Win The 2020 Democratic Primary https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-julian-castro-could-win-the-2020-democratic-primary/
You have to think, at least as of this moment in time, the second Beto gets in the race, Castro is all but done. He'd be at such a huge financial and polling disadvantage and would have to beat Beto in the Texas primary to even have a chance. Something that, if the primary were held today, wouldn't happen.
I think the main reason why I would support Castro getting into the race is that possibly it could end with his brother having to be put in an iron mask and locked away. I don't wish any ill-will towards his brother, but it would be fun to be in that position.
Envisioning the Republican jokes about a Castro and socialism is already enough to make me want to throw up.
Agreed, was very surprised he didn't run, but I guess he was afraid that a loss would look bad on his resume on the national stage. While him running may have gone better than what happened, I'm not sure that he would have had the same results that Beto did. Abbott is much more popular than Ted Cruz is.
