Brad Mills had mentioned Lyles getting a chance at the #5 spot, have a sneaking feeling he is going to be a big part of this rotation next year.

makes no sense imo....we have Barmes and we have CJ and 2b and 3b.....unless he is the platoon LF we are targeting??? I cant imagine he would come here to play SS and he certainkly wont see CF without binoculars unless Bourne goes down. Ive always liked Hall..and he is definitely versatile, but not sure if he fits...

another mediocre stopgap of a solution. either get an impact player like uggla (too late, i know), or keep keppinger and play him. he's cheap and reliable. how much does bill hall at 2nd really improve the team overall?

Kepp was one of the Astros better offensive players last year. His OBP was top of the order worthy.

And here I thought the Astros in this offseason were looking to upgrade the offense at C, 1B, LF and SS (which they did).

Maybe Bill Hall would be more of the utility IF than the everyday 2B?

Apparently, two teams have made Cliff Lee 7 year deals. From all the reports Yanks, Rangers, Phillies and Nats aren't those teams sooooo...... ;)

7 years for a pitcher - any pitcher - is insane. The chances of him being a top-tier pitcher 4 or 5 years from now are fairly low, no matter who it is. Too much chance of injury or general inconsistency. That will be seriously screw up any franchise down the line like it has with us and the other C. Lee.

Young will be AWESOME in an Astro uniform but it's going to cost some serious prospects.

Matt Garza is available, not sure how much the Tampa is asking for but it maybe worth a look at least.

It says that they are forward-looking. He's 34 and is making $16MM - a bit less than what, say, Cliff Lee will probably make per year. If they can trade him for prospects, they improve down the line and free up all the money needed to sign Cliff Lee. If they hold on to him, he loses trade value and then they might be stuck with a 35 or 36 year old crappy player if he declines.

It's exactly the type of thing smart teams too - they know when to move on from players. No different than the Red Sox letting guys like Johnny Damon go. These franchises understand the economics of staying competitive.

I understand the reasoning behind it, he's an aging player past his prime, low OBP and on the decline while getting paid a tremendous amount.

Simply looking to rag on the Rangers anyway I can. Hate that town and all those idiot bandwagon fans.
