Serious question--is it that hard to drop a bunt down 3B side with that kind of shift if you're not accustomed to bunting?
We aren't talking about me, but professional baseball players. I just wonder if it's a skill thing or more of a pride issue, or both
Guys that are/were power hitters don't practice bunting very often. Doing it in BP is a little different than a guy throwing 95mph
I love that we are off to an 8-2 start but our offense needs to get going. Collectively we suck on offense so far this year.
With a standard shift, the bunt still has to be at least decent to be a hit, so yeah it's understandable why non bunters don't bunt on that. But that super shift we employed earlier this season where the left side was completely empty, that was pride, I refuse to believe an MLB hitter can't bunt a ball to the left side.
Gonzalez McCann Davis Marisnick Fisher That is a garbage 5-9. I hope Verlander is comfortable with only a few runs.
We're 4th in the AL in runs scored, so we haven't been that terrible. Springer, Bregman and Gattis will get going and Yuli will replace Davis. Really nothing to be concerned about. Our offense was abysmal through the first 8 games last season.
At least I have optimism those two will break out. I can’t say that for Davis or Fisher. I don’t buy that last year is the new normal for Marwin. Not saying it is all doom and gloom, Gurriel will be back and if we don’t get production out of that corner outfield spot; Luhnow will get someone.
Oh I know. Yuli will be back soon. Then all they have to fix is LF/DH. Huh, sounds a lot like last year.
I’m very confident the bats will breakout eventually (they struggled big time out of the gate last season and we know how that turned out) but all these strikeouts and bad AB’s are frustrating. Luckily we’ve gotten Lynn’s pitch count up really high.
