Well, this is not surprising in the least. We all knew this would happen, and....yep, told ya so.

New York Healthcare Premiums Are About To Explode

Insurance companies operating in New York State's marketplace are expected to ask for double-digit premium hikes next year, according to new filings from the companies.
Capital New York reports the average requested increase was 13%. The New York Post reports that number at about 12%. But the bigger insurers are seeking a bigger premium hike — according to Capital, the six most popular plans in New York are requesting an average increase of almost 15%.

The Post reports that Excellus Health Plan, which has about 24,000 customers, is requesting a 19.7% hike. MVP Health Plan, which has nearly 33,000 customers, is seeking a 19% increase. New York's largest insurer on the exchange — Health Republic Insurance of New York, which has 68,000 customers — is requesting a 15% increase.

The requests from states are being closely watched, after the end of the first open-enrollment period of the Affordable Care Act. According to the reports, insurers cited a number of reasons for the proposed premium hikes in their filings, including rising medical costs, having a sicker and/or older pool of customers, and new regulations and taxes levied by Obamacare.

Its funny all the reports of about what is about to happen with Obamacare are always bad, but then what actually happens is good.

I agree, most of us knew that would happen.

it was going to take time for the rates to rise. That was also known. So your point about "nothing but good news so far" is worthless

    Obamacare keeps rocking.

Newest Health Insurance Customers Are Generally Happy
    JULY 10, 2014

We’ve known for a few months now that lots of people signed up for health insurance this year in new marketplaces. A new survey shows that the people who did so are also pretty happy with their purchases.

The survey, from the Commonwealth Fund, a research group, came to similar conclusions as other surveys about the expansion of health insurance. It found that about 15 percent of adults younger than 65 now lack health insurance, down from 20 percent before the Affordable Care Act rolled out in January.

What was more surprising is that people who got the new coverage were generally happy with the product. Overall, 73 percent of people who bought health plans and 87 percent of those who signed up for Medicaid said they were somewhat or very satisfied with their new health insurance. Seventy-four percent of newly insured Republicans liked their plans. Even 77 percent of people who had insurance before — including members of the much-publicized group whose plans got canceled last year — were happy with their new coverage.

Larry Levitt, the senior vice president for special initiatives at the Kaiser Family Foundation, another research group that polls on the Affordable Care Act, said he wasn’t sure we’d see such high satisfaction so early. The law’s requirement that Americans obtain insurance always made him wonder whether people would be glad to have insurance if they felt forced to buy it. “It’s possible people may have felt coerced into buying coverage, even if they didn’t like it or didn’t feel it was a good value,” he said in an email. “That doesn’t seem to be happening so far.”

The Commonwealth poll appears to be the first national survey since the health-law passed to have gone beyond questions about insurance status and asked about satisfaction and usage...

Republicans are banking on this hard for the next two years as their fears have been that entitlements become more popular and locked over time.

Whether it really is working/beneficial or not isn't the issue anymore.

In U.S., Uninsured Rate Sinks to 13.4% in Second Quarter

Significant decline in uninsured rate across age groups since the end of 2013
    by Jenna Levy

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The uninsured rate in the U.S. fell 2.2 percentage points to 13.4% in the second quarter of 2014. This is the lowest quarterly average recorded since Gallup and Healthways began tracking the percentage of uninsured Americans in 2008. The previous low point was 14.4% in the third quarter of 2008.

The uninsured rate has decreased sharply since the Affordable Care Act's requirement for most Americans to have health insurance went into effect at the beginning of 2014. In fact, the uninsured rate has dropped by 3.7 points since the fourth quarter of 2013, when it averaged 17.1%.

The decline in the uninsured rate last quarter took place at the start of the quarter. The drop reflected a surge of health plan enrollees in early April, prior to the April 15 extended enrollment deadline for people who had previously experienced technical difficulties with the federal healthcare exchange website. In April and May, the uninsured rate hovered at 13.4%, and it remained at that level in June -- clearly indicating that the decline seen since late 2013 has leveled off.

The second-quarter results are based on more than 45,000 interviews with U.S. adults from April 1 to June 30, 2014, as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index.

Uninsured Rate Continues to Drop Across Age Groups

Gallup's quarterly trends show that the uninsured rate dropped by about three points from the fourth quarter of 2013 among each major age group under 65. The uninsured rate in the second quarter averaged 18.7% among 18- to 25-year-olds, 23.9% among 26- to 34-year-olds, and 13.4% among 35- to 64-year-olds.

Given the availability of Medicare and Medicaid benefits, very few seniors report being without health insurance, although the uninsured rate among those 65 and older is now 2.0%, down from 2.8% in the third quarter of 2013.

Anyone who bought on the federal exchange can't get a subsidy? Thats my understanding.

It would be awesome if the GOP were dumb enough to run on repealing Obamacare, but they aren't that stupid. Deal with it 1%, affordable healthcare is here to stay, and it's going to be expanded.

What a brutal ruling. The court was probably right to rule that way, but the people who brought the suit seek nothing but a victory against Obama.

This victory will help no one except in talking point terms.

Why couldn't it be they disapprove of the law and want it repealed? Do you know them personally?

It helps anyone who desires to see Obamacare repealed so they can go back to their old healthcare plan. It helps anyone who has lost a job due to Obamacare.

This ruling doesn't get the law repealed, it simply takes the subsidy away from individuals who live in states that refused to handle the implementation of the law themselves.

So the law will still stand which will drive up rates in places like Texas, but Texans won't be able to get the tax credit to purchase insurance like their brethren in other states.

    It only brings pain.

It makes the law more likely to be repealed as it is harder to implement. Its also a bonus for tax payers (the ones who pay the subsidies) or anyone who cares about the deficit.

It doesn't make it any easier to repeal. Repeal will have nothing to do with any court decision and will fall entirely on the makeup of the three branches of government. Democrats will never vote with Republicans to repeal this law.

The subsidy is a low income tax cut for all intents and purposes. This raises the tax bill on a lot of Americans.

They will if their constituents demand it. Politicians tend to care about their job.

No, it lowers it for tax payers. An individual's own health insurance payments are not a tax, that's completely dishonest.

    Conservative logic at its finest.

"It is a blow to Obama which means it must be good"

In reality, all it does is make a bad situation worse.

The subsidy is a tax credit that can be paid up front to an insurance company. An individual can also elect not to do that and claim it on their taxes. It is a tax credit. Taking it away is raising the taxes on individuals who qualify for this credit.
