[NYDN] Cavs don't want to offer Kyrie Irving a max contact extension

[rQUOTEr]The Cavs are making noises that they aren’t going to offer Kyrie Irving “max money’’ this summer via a long-term extension. They don’t want to deal the 2014 All-Star Game MVP, but it could come to that, especially if the West Orange product and his family continue to tell people that he wants out. Irving hasn’t been a leader in his first three seasons and he’s also gained the unwelcomed reputation as a locker-room problem. Those are two reasons the Cavs don’t see him as a max player.

“He was just handed too much, too soon,’’ said one source. “You’ve got to make these young guys earn it, and that’s where this team did a bad job with him.’’

If the Cavs won't, somebody else will.

    Had Lebron... let him leave
Have Kyrie...most likely will let him leave

If Houston can pair Kyrie with James and Dwight, I'd be very very happy...:)

Is he worth the Max? I'm not entirely sure he is at this point. I guess he still has that potential to be in the future but so far nope.

I don't think he's worth the max with his history of injuries. Money better spend on Love.

That's bogus. Kyrie Irving already called out Windhorst for his fake 'sources' earlier in the year talking about how Kyrie wants out. You really think the CAVS are willing to let go a PG like Kyrie?

    Don't believe these fake sources.

Sick to my stomach with all these rumors and accusations. Can I play without media guessing at my life and putting B.S out for headlines.
— Kyrie Irving (@KyrieIrving) April 5, 2014

I'd rather give love the max but what I will say is he'd be crazy in our offense. Kyrie waiting on the perimeter while james drives to the hoop:eek::eek::eek:. Still he has a history of injuries and immaturity, I do think he'll grow when he goes to a team with vets but for now ehhhh IDK

    Quite, surely...

The ugly person is turning down a handsome prince.

    Good luck, fair Cleveland

He's getting the max. You don't need sources to know that.

No defense PG. Kyle Lowry is better than him right now.

Nobody cares for right now. When Kyrie "gets it", and he will, Lowry is a chump compared to Irving.

Next year is a do or die year for Kyrie.

O Morey... Another team doesn't want to pay its superstar. Time to get opportunistic.

I think he's the most overrated "superstar" in the league right now. Granted he's still very young and has the talent but he's not arrived yet.

Yeah, it would also become the worst defensive backcourt in NBA history.

Sounds like the Harden situation. Get it done Morey.

Eh... on second thought we'd be the worst backcourt defensive tandem in the league while simultaneously being the best offensive backcourt in the league.
After that Portland series, I want defense.
