NUGGETS ACTIVATE CHEANEY, WAIVE RIDER The Denver Nuggets have activated G/F Calbert Cheaney from the injured list, team General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe announced today. In addition, the Nuggets waived G Isaiah Rider. "It's unfortunate that we had to waive J.R. at this time," said Vandeweghe. "But, we had to make this roster change. J.R. has been nothing but professional since he's been here." Rider appeared in 10 games for the Nuggets, starting once. He averaged 9.3 ppg and 3.3 rpg in 17.3 minutes. He scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Houston on Nov. 9. Cheaney suffered a sprained left knee during the preseason and was placed on the injured list at the beginning of the regular season. -NUGGETS-
Something strange about that move. Cheaney is absolutely terrible, and gave Denver nothing last season. J.R.'s been fairly productive, and the team's winning. There must have been some sort of incident to precipitate his waiver; otherwise, it looks like a stupid decision.
How old is he now? At some point he will reach maturity. I just wonder what lucky team he will be with when he does.
30 I know what you mean though, all that athleticism and power, even with that not-so-hot jump-shot he could be an excellent scorer.
It's really sad and a shame - all his wasted talent. I hope that he'll get it together sometime, but probably that will be when he's to old to play, if ever.
Maybe the Nugs wanna sign Jim Jackson now....but I sense there is something they aren't telling us. He could have done something so bad that the Nugs management said "F*** off, or we are going to the press!" But Rider will probably end up somewhere else in the league- possibly Miami.
guys, dont blame rider. he did nothing wrong. he was merely a victim of a numbers crunch - both roster spots and salary cap/lux tax. look for the nuggets to possibly bring in their chinese center soon to take his spot.
he might be just another victim,...but I'd take him on the Rockets......he can't be any more surly on drugged up than Cato anyhow + he plays 2 million times better.
Wow, looks like the Nugs organization actually did the classy thing for not bashing J.R. publicly. <a href="http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nuggets/article/0,1299,DRMN_20_884067,00.html">Bye Bye JR</a>.
Would have been nice if they waived him before we played them last time. We could have guarded NVE without him around as the second option.
They should've kept Rider. He has amazing talent and it seems like he's been playing harder this season. But I guess a bad reputation can follow you everywhere.
