Coach was on NPR’s quiz show today. He gets quizzed on “Mike, Dan, and Tony.”

(Confirmed Carl Herrera is actually Peter Sagal.)

Notable comment about players having gotten him fired on past teams.

Love the show and listen every weekend at the gym. You don’t have to like politics to enjoy the show

Clyde must be an advisor to the show, too.

Ha. Yes, I was impressed they mostly managed to avoid obvious sports cliches, until the “nothing but net” comment at least.

    MDA seemed jovial and likable...

Peculiar to hear him say he doesnt utilize an psychological aspects in his coaching... as someone who manages people, thats always something you need to utilize... I actually mentioned in a post once about how the org should employ a psychologist or something - for when dealing with when Ryan Anderson went to hell... or managing egos....

It's probably more that he doesn't explicitly use psychological methods, like what Phil Jackson had been known for. The way a coach communicates is inherently psychological, particularly one who has been around players for decades. It just might not be clearly defined as psychological methods in his mind.

You could even look to the fact that his traditional coaching style was inherently efficient and analytical long before advanced statistics were implemented -- he employs certain methods that benefit his teams without deliberately defining them as psychological or analytical.

Claiming not to use them, is psychological mind-game number one.

"No, guys, the mid-range area on the practice court is not shrinking. That's silly."

Any comments about Tilman's poverty level? Guess I'll find out!

EDIT: No, none. I am a big Mike D'Antoni fan. He has really won me over these past couple of years.

He empowers his players like few coaches do. Don’t need some pseudo-science term to describe that
