...of how the rockets have changed their game, the game, and the relative importance of big men in the league today:

The Rockets were out rebounded last night 41-36, including 14-8 on the offensive end.

    and won by 30.

Rebounding does not matter if they shoot 50% or better, the generated extra possessions are pretty fly.

the rockets are more often than not going to lose the rebounding battle. they've already conceded to that. people just need to get use to it when they are focused on making up for it in other ways. it's nothing new

We are going to have less turnovers per quality shot with the way we play. The Yao Ming offense was pretty inefficient when you consider the turnovers and time it took to get him the ball in the paint.

Win the turnover battle bigly with swarming, frenetic switching D, and smallball can still produce more shots on goal....often transition.

Call it Skillball ... or BallControl ball. Both offense TOs and defense TOs improve with 5 skill players who can space the court.

Shots on goal is an important measure of whether our smallball suffers from a rebounding gap

being outrebounded by 5 is nothing, and GS is 1 of the worst teams in the league...games against actual relevant teams will tell us much more about this squad

games against Utah, LA, Denver, Boston, etc are what I care about...games against GS, NY, ATL, etc I take nothing from

Not really. There were only legit big men back then. Shaq and Yao. With Duncan, you didn't need to feed him.

of course it was. the game was much slower and guys played inside out. that's not how you play in this era. just completely different times and not comparable

Exactly how many turnovers did we have vs. them and how many points off turnovers? Pretty brilliant plan to get players that are good at "deflections" on defense as well as when rebounding to where at least 2nd chance points are low maybe? Would be interesting to see how many 2nd chance points the Warriors got on their offensive rebounds.

My point is the rules haven't changed, the game has changed because coaches and GM's have figured out a more efficient way to play. Post play is inefficient unless you have Shaq, Duncan or Dream, and have Robert Horry(best post feeder in the history of basketball) feeding you in the post.

the rules of the game have actually changed. the principles are there somewhat but the way the game is played and the calls are different. just not comparable in different eras and i don't think they warrant much valid comparison

I just love how they’re making opposing big men unplayable. Hopefully they can do it against Gobert, Jokic and Davis. If they can neutralize the best or 2nd best opposing player in the playoffs, then they could go all the way.

These guys would only have a job in today's NBA if they all remained at their lightest, high energy, rim running youthful phase of their respective careers. Duncan had the best body dexterity and could be a perimeter, 3pt shooting big.. but that's about it.

If we won the rebounding battle we could've won by 40!

Just kidding. While i hate giving up offensive rebounds this is clearly our best strategy given our personnel. Even if we don't win the championship we're at least fun to watch. I don't miss playing a center at all.

They showed a stat last night, last 6 champions were muddle of the pack or worse in rebounds .

    Rebounds do not matter.

What I take from this game is that the Rockets didn’t have their patented letdown after building a huge lead. That’s a big step in the right direction.

Skills Ball is my preferred term too, more accurate.
