i would see battier more as a valuable trade chip for us, i dont think he can make a case for our most valuable player, that imo goes to yao or matin. i only see brooks getting an extension for now, but maybe not even him. im so excited to see brooks get even better to make a statement for how much he deserves. Morey's extension is not effected by the CBA, salary cap, etc. Big difference. The contracts have nothing to do with what you're worth or what you deserve, it's the rules they have to work under. It's a fact now that salary cap mgmt is a factor in winning, just like rebounding, defense, 3 pt shooting, etc. It may not have to be great to win games, but lthe ack of it can kill your team.
I don't think battier getting an extension, maybe Brooks, but battier is old even though he is great locker room presence but at the age of 32 I don't think so.
Morey's just using GM-speak BS. If we had Kevin Durant, Morey would give him the max without a second thought. If we traded for Melo, Morey would give him the 3-year extension Denver proposed. It's not that Morey doesn't give extensions because of the CBA, but rather he's not going to give extensions to the likes of Battier or Brooks because he doesn't have to. The CBA is just an excuse so he doesn't hurt Brooks' feelings. Morey's not Dawson. He doesn't give out a big contract because he like someone.
Are you people illiterate? NOONE is getting an extension. No one. That's the whole point of the article, it's explicitly stated in the title, and D. Morey is quoted explicitly saying that multiple times. IMO, this is a smart move on the team's part, and although it's good business for the players to complain about it, ultimately everyone understands what the situation is viz. the new CBA. Yao + new CBA is way too much uncertainty for the team to be betting on looking anything like it is now in 5 years.
