So if you were forming a team for one season to try to win a championship, and you can pick any player in his prime as your first choice, you’d take Kobe before Duncan?

Prior to '06 or '07, Duncan was the better player.

I know some people are going to say yes but I don't see it. I would absolutely take Duncan over Kobe.

The only argument I see for Kobe is that the league has become so guard oriented now, maybe it’s best to start with a great perimeter player. But for most of the history of the league, I think the obvious choice is Duncan.

I'm assuming we are being "era neutral" here.

Somehow everytime I hear from Nick Wright, I manage to care even less of what he thinks.

So would you take Kobe and an average PF or Duncan and an average SG? I'm taking Kobe in his prime. I think he affects the game by himself more than Duncan would. But it is close.

I think you have a better chance with Kobe on any team regardless of teammates, coach, and system.

By the time Kobe was better than Duncan, Lebron was better than both of them.

And the Spurs entire system was throw it to Duncan and let him do Duncan stuff, it's why the Spurs used to be the most boring team in the nba.
