Nick Wright: Buying Steph calling tonight vs Rockets a "statement" game for Warriors?

Yeah this game seems like it's all on the Rockets with KD out. I imagine a lot of folks are saying we should beat them missing Durant. And if they win, it'll be seen as 'see even without KD they can still beat the Rockets'. Sort of a lose-lose either way...but who gaf...moving up in the standings would be good at this point and beating GS would get us closer to that 1 seed.

Anyway, Nick Wright is saying in the first half of the video that, no, this is not a statement game for the 2018-2019 Warriors, but it might be an insight into what the 2019-2020 Warriors looks like with KD out. Says you wouldn't consider it a "statement game" for the Rockets if Harden was out. He says that it would be foolish for the Warriors to pretend like this game means something or to rush Durant back, because as long as they have all their stars healthy come playoff time, they're still the favorites. Also, calling it a statement game against the one team that's had your number over the past couple years puts you in a position to look really bad if you lose.

I like Nick Wright, and he's talking sense, but his whole conversation is kind of a muddled mess of different points, that while all true, don't really come together in some sort of coherent thought on the topic at hand. That's probably because the whole idea of a "statement game" is pretty dumb and vague. Maybe Nick just dodged having to try to even define what the hell it even means.

"Short-handed" is such a disingenuous term to use for a KD-less Warriors team. That they could be short-handed with only 4 star players instead of 5, call that a "statement" win says more than wins and losses could. Like, give us Giannis, Butler and AD to go with CP and Harden and see the reaction if we play them without Harden and call it a "statement" game. That wide of a load won't even fit on I-10.

I think it’s hillarious that literally one game tonight could erase three previous wins against them this season in the eyes of the media.

Edit - Also I saw a clip where Chris Brusard (spelling) said “why wake the sleeping bear” with the rockets saying “it’s not a statement game for us”. Well, it’s not. We’ve beaten them 3 times, twice short handed. What we have to prove isn’t in this game , but in the playoffs. This game doesn’t change anything if it’s a loss. It means we beat them 3 out of 4 times this year , mostly short handed, and we have been playing better basketball as of late.
