This isn't turning the page. This is lighting the book on fire and eating it. Now there will be protests, and fines, and protests to the fines, and fines to the protests of the fines. All of which will generate more headlines and more pants-wetting from all sides. The NFL is run by idiots.
Actually probably not. Players will find that they harm their job prospects by being an ass AND get fined on top of that. The anthem nonsense is going to quickly become a thing of the past because the almighty dollar is the primary motivator of the vast majority in the NFL and those who are primarily motivated by SJW nonsense that decide to continue harming the NFL will find that they are out of a job and that they don't even get to keep all of the money they made the short time they were in the league. Problems like this have a way of taking care of themselves.
Amazing that all of these billionaires can't seem to do anything correctly (including hiring a competent commissioner)
The move should have taken place 2 years ago. NFL has been angering fans on both sides of the issue this whole time. Problem is they never get out in front of things, or stick with anything. This isn't just the National Anthem, but rather every single issue that comes up. Everything is reactionary, and almost always wrong. They pay Roger Goodell a ridiculous amount of money for a job you basically couldn't screw up, and he is screwing it up.
The only way they could have gotten away with this is if they also dedicated a month to the cause being promoted. Do something on the field or air some commercials to promote police-community relations. Or allow players to protest another way -allow them to wear non-NFL shirts during warm ups.
The league got popular and rich by selling churn-and-burn violence as family friendly sports. It doesn't take smart, visionary people to do that. These dust-covered, soggy-ass goobers are now perpetually behind the 8-ball in a world where hitting women is bad, smoking dope is fine, and brain injuries are real. It's dinosaurs driving a rocketship loaded with explosives.
i totally agree with you but the fact that these good ole boys don't care about anything but there bottom line says a lot about them.
The players picked the wrong venue to protest in. The anthem protests were doomed to fail from the getgo. Those comparing this to the civil rights movements of the sixties are totally out of touch with reality. Blocking entrances to segregated places of business made sense. Kneeling during the anthem does not connect at any level with any issue. It is seen as just disrespectful.
The effectiveness of protests can only really be judged down the line. The raised fist at the Olympics was just seen as disrespectful and anti-American at the time and had no immediate impact, but they are viewed very differently now. In terms of effectiveness, the much-criticized BLM and the amplification from the Kaepernick thing have helped spur the police bodycam movement over the last several years, which has in turn directly prevented at least a handful of innocent black men from prosecution from police who have attempted to outright lie about events (see the Bucks guy as an example). So it's had an actual effect in just a short time and has demonstrated the injustices in our system where people just assume cops always tell the truth, and put a bright light to the ignorance of people like Bobby. While the effects are limited so far, that is true of virtually all protests throughout history, and we have no idea what the long-term effects will be.
Amen Amen Amen that just goes to show all the nah sayer that the protest was about something very important Equally.
as long as you're not chanting lines from the fatherland carrying torches, I'm good with ANY side who decides to protest, like Pence refusing to stand for the unified Korean team during the winter games. Protests are essential for democracies. It's baffling how one side who declares it's too pc out there is so easily offended by kneels, eye shadow jokes and truth. . As for the anthem, I agree with Lavar Ball. It's their (the owners) League. They have to do what's best for their bottom line. If You give mr. dennison a reason, he will do to the nfl what he has done to a lot of businesses. And unfortunately for the NFL, this is one of the topics mr. dennison is completely obsessed with , others being, Obama, Crooked hilary, Mccain doing thumbsdown, Ivanka, MS-13, Walls, KFC, Space force, ratings and AMAZON. Not even the president wants to spend time in the white house. It's basically a shithole country or shithouse, all to interpretation. get some new carpeting in there or better yet, big beautiful marble tiles. Carpets should be banned. VULGAR. Not the 80s anymore, though some women like doing it on a rug due to the rug burns... I had a girlfriend from Longview once loved carpets, no, I shouldn't tell but you know life. you know life. !
LOL give me a break, the BLM nonsense has done next to nothing positive, it just led to further dividing the country....which i guess could be viewed as a positive for some....but it's a big part of why we have the president we do right now. "Standing up" for instances where there is no injustice while claiming it as an example of injustice did nothing but kill the credibility of those involved. Kap took a stance against a black criminal who was armed with a stolen gun being rightfully shot by a black police officer....now sure that's being re-branded today to pretend like there was some legitimate reason for him doing what he did, but that kind of PR nonsense only works on truly ignorant people such as yourself. To this day the BLM people have yet to make a big demonstration in the instance of a legitimately innocent person...and crazy enough, they've actually had one or two, they just dropped the ball in those instances opting instead to loot and vandalize cities when a criminal is rightfully shot while attacking police. The only real positive that has come out of this is that actual numbers start coming out which disprove the false narratives that people like yourself try and push. The idea that cops are out looking to shoot black people is countered by the stats that show cops are actually less likely to shoot a black person than a person of a different race. The use of body cams have made it considerably harder for people like you to spin police shootings into being an injustice. Those are the only positives that have come from this nonsense.
I think it's time for the players to throw in the towel on this form of demonstration. I'm not saying they shouldn't continue to speak out on issues that are important to them. They just need to do their demonstrating when not on the job, and definitely not during the national anthem. A significant percentage of paying customers and tv watchers just aren't going to ever be down with any form of protests during the national anthem. Trump is, in my opinion, successfully using this issue for his own gain, and the players need to understand that they will only be helping Trump even more by continuing this form of demonstrating. Time to try something else.
Lol wrong as usual. That was quick. https://nypost.com/2018/07/20/nfl-finally-realizes-new-anthem-policy-is-a-mess/
How is it that regular folk can figure this crap out (as evidenced by the results of the poll above) and Goodell continues to mess stuff up! All they have do is go back to pre-2009, have the anthem played (not like it should even be played before a team sporting event not involving national teams but that's a different discussion) while the players are in the locker room before player introductions. Simple.
Just stop playing the anthem. Problem solved. The US military pays for the NFL to play it so it isn't about patriotism anyway. You know why I stopped watching football? 3 hours of commercials and one hour of play.
