Now this guy would be a great backup to T-Mac and JJ. What do you guys think?

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - Lucious Harris' seven-year tenure with the New Jersey Nets is over.

On Wednesday, the Nets requested waivers on the 33-year-old Harris, who has played in 54 playoff games with the team - tied for the most in franchise history.

Harris averaged 7.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in the playoffs for the Nets, who were Eastern Conference champions in both the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.

During the 2002-03 regular season, Harris averaged a career-high 10.3 points in 77 games, including 25 starts.

Though his production fell to 6.9 points in 69 games last season, the Nets topped the Atlantic Division with a 47-35 record before being defeated by the eventual NBA champion Detroit Pistons in the conference semifinals.

"Lucious was a valuable member of our organization for the past seven seasons," Nets CEO Rod Thorn said. "He was an integral part of our accomplishments over the past three years, and we wish him nothing but success in the future."

Originally a second-round pick of the Dallas Mavericks in 1993, Harris has averaged 7.5 points, 1.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 727 career games with the Mavericks, 76ers and Nets.

Harris is the latest veteran to be sent packing this offseason by Nets, who traded forward Kenyon Martin to the Denver Nuggets and guard Kerry Kittles to the Los Angeles Clippers.

I think he's a marginal upgrade over a healthy Adrian Griffin.

And Sura + Boki are better backups for TMac and JJ.

    Pass.

He's not playing very well lately. He was very good when the Nets went to the Finals.

That is kind of strange to let him go right now. The Nets don't have any shooters other than Hubert Davis on the roster. They must be really high on Eric Williams or just really high...

well we dont have Griffin anymore....but ...

He is a hell of a shooter with playoff experience. If you go by his peers...Jason Kidd said one of the things the Nets had better do before he signed was to sign Lucious Harris. He would provide some nice spark and good shooting off the bench.

Poor Nets...I'm so glad I dont have Nets seasons tix anymore...what a waste of a team they have become overnight. Makes me appreciate my Rockets seasons a lot more!

I feel sorry for people who have already purchased season tickets for them. Hope they kept the receipt!

I have probably 10-12 friends who have seasons tickets...they are livid...the ones who waited until the last minute before sending in their checks have all cancelled. The ones who are really screwed are the ones who paid for playoff tickets and chose to credit this seasons tickets with the balance

Lucious Harris would be a nice pickup for this team, too bad there is no room for him. But I'm sure he will get picked up by another team.

You can't have too much shooters, SIGN HIM!
