The arcades were cooler then. Still remember the layout of sharpstown. Was a dump before I left Houston but not a trauma inducing dump.
Man, the theme music in that trailer is probably top five all time for me. Nailed it so hard. There's a guy in a fan group I'm in on FB that built a mini, scale arcade with the ST action figures. LOL..man there are so many anachronistic errors all through that show. Personally I have a hard time believing that anyone who's into Joy Division and The Clash would fail to recognize someone dressed as Siouxsie Sioux at a Halloween party. Nope..can't convince me of that. Also, the small disk on the cranks of one of the kids BMX bike is a 2000's thing. Those didn't exist on 80's bmx bikes at all. But to be honest we could nitpick that shows errors all day..but I just have to let it go and enjoy it for all the fun references and memories.
It bugs me that they say douchebag so much. Wasn't common nomenclature until the 2010s. But yeah, it's not perfect. The creators are Millenials so they can only do so much with pop culture references.
Well, douchebag definitely goes back a ways. What I get nitpicky about are the soundtrack choices that are out of time (the Bangles version of Hazy Shade of Winter was from the late 80s) and the show's version of Dig Dug having a six-character high score table.
Doesn't matter when "douchebag" gained popularity, it was in fact used in E.T. So, anything used in ET is fair game (and appropriate) to have been picked up by Dustin as an early adopter. Dustin would have watched that movie more than once, and liked that word. So, it's actually a perfect cultural reference for the kids. Well done.
