Indeed, after hearing last week no deals where being discussed it was kind of a bummer even though it didn't mean nothing would happen by the deadline. Hearing this is truly encouraging and if the players are in place we can start to wonder who these "players" would be.

Derek Holland on the radar? Still another 2ish cheap years before we have to even look at anything longterm..

I doubt it.. we're probably looking at Martin Perez or Tanner Scheppers.

Will this cause a domino effect at first if we get Justin Smoak? Berkman to DH in American league at deadline sounds about right

yeah, I was just thinking Holland fits the Drayton "still try to win now and sell seats" attitude that may or may not be in play. (I say that, but I'm still hopeful that we're going all out in the toilet once Roy is moved.. hoping for the domino effect with Lance and maybe even Carlos following)

The guy who broke this said it would be a salary dump and MAYBE get some B-level prospects.

Sadly, their B level prospects would probably be our A level guys at this point.

I think the Astros would certainly take Holland -- I just don't think the Rangers would give up Holland, Feliz, or Smoak in any deal.

I don't think they would either. Probably none of their top 5, really. My fantasy team would certainly benefit from an Oswalt trade to Texas though, as they have some insane run support over there. My team would look a lot like the Rangers, too... I already have Feliz, Hamilton, Holland, and Andrus.

I really hope the Astros don't take back Rich Harden though. Man, that guy has been AWFUL lately.

Not to be needlessly contradictory, but here is the story from the guy who broke it. I don't see anything at all like that anywhere in what he wrote.

i think they would, and i think they'd be morons to be unwilling to. this is a team who has never sniffed a world series. adding a stud like roy for the next 2 - 3 seasons would enable them to capitalize on the best chance they've ever had to do some damage.

I hope they throw Chris Davis into the deal. I know he's a strikeout machine, but he's got tons of left handed power, is hitting for a high average right now, doesn't ground into double plays, plays good defense at both 1st and 3rd, and he's 24. He could seriously slide into 1st base when we trade Berkman away.
