    11. Chris Paul

    Houston Rockets | G

    Previous rank: 7

    Projected RPM wins: 10.3

Isn't it cute that there were concerns about CP3 coexisting with James Harden a year ago? The Rockets responded by leading the league with 65 victories and finishing "a hamstring away" from a title, as GM Daryl Morey put it, referring of course to the injury that sidelined Paul after Houston took a 3-2 lead over the Warriors in the Western Conference finals.

As he begins a four-year, $160 million deal at age 33, a healthy Paul remains a point god. But durability is a concern, considering Paul has missed a total of 45 games in the past two regular seasons and had injuries prematurely end two of his past three postseasons. -- Tim MacMahon

ESPN mocking this narrative while being the main driver of this narrative one year ago....

A completely fair assessment. As they say, the most important ability is availability. He has to be on the court to help...and that is an ongoing concern. Particularly during the post season, when it is most important. Age isn't going to help that.

    3. James Harden

    Houston Rockets | G

    Previous rank: 8

    Projected RPM wins: 10.6

There is no comparison to Harden working one-on-one. Per NBA.com stats, Harden averaged 1.22 points per isolation possession during his MVP campaign last season -- better than any team averaged in transition.

That kind of crazy efficiency comes when a guy who gets to the line more than anyone (leading the league in free throws four straight seasons) develops a deadly stepback 3 as a counterpunch (330 attempts in 2017-18 with an effective field goal percentage of 55.5, per Second Spectrum). And he's an elite passer. Oscar Robertson is the only other player to average at least 29 points and 8 assists in multiple seasons, as Harden has done the past two years. -- Tim MacMahon
