Knicks only have leverage if they absolutely do not care what other free agents think of them.

Whilst Melo is no saint, everyone is aware of how poorly the Knicks treated Melo, especially with their GM (Phil Jackson) taking shots at Melo. The relationship didn't work out, and both sides have already expressed interest to part ways. Melo isn't going to fetch them anything game changing even if he didn't have a no-trade clause, so them holding out for better trade scenarios is only going to look worse for them over time.

Not to mention, Chris Paul is the player's association president. He will remember it if the Knicks are trying to ruin his best chance of winning a ring.

Of course, we are asking Knicks to straight up take a L here, which most teams are not too likely to do. But I do hope the Knicks are rational enough to realize that taking the L in this fiasco might be necessary after how they behaved.

2 choices... trade him for our crap package of Ryan anderson and fillers.... or buy him out.. this wont end well with the Knicks... Rockets win the trade or signing before it even happens.... Thank to that NTC.!

Banana boat team is just fan speculation, not a prerequisite for CP3 staying. Morey has probably talked to both CP3 and Harden about potential moves, but there's no way he could have promised them a third star. Melo or Lebron, that stuff is out of his hands. That's like saying GS promised Steph they'd get KD. They couldn't, but they put themselves in a position to pursue and were ready to pivot had things not panned out. We weren't even on Melo's list until AFTER we got CP3. Paul came here because of Harden, to split playmaking duties, and we just locked James up for another four years.

We're not going to bid against ourselves. We were the third best team in the league last year and added CP3. We replaced most of the lost depth with the Tucker, Mbah a Moute, and Black signings. We'll have a great record and our defense should be greatly improved. If CP3 wants to leave because he wants a banana boat, there aren't a whole lot of options to get it anywhere else. The Spurs just capped themselves out with the Mills/Gasol extensions and they were the only team better than us. We're the only team that can offer him the max contract ($30+ million) and still be good. If he's so upset about a third star where the hell is he going to go?

After Porzingis confirmed he wants to stay in New York, and it's his hometown, it's became obvious, drama with Anthony will die down . Let them keep him , let them suck even longer. But this establishing a fact , that is real GM in town , and he is pulling strings.

This is such a ridiculous notion. People on here want this trade to happen so badly that they just come up with delusional concepts. If this is true, why is it that people have said Kyrie would love to play for Knicks. Nowhere does it say "he's concerned with the way they treat their players".

Morey should've been a little more conservative on the CP3 trade.. did you have to give them our 2018 first.
If we had our 2018 first, is Melo a rocket already?

You just said a mouthful. These new York writers are doing everything to help the Knicks trade position.

Looks like it time to close up shop and put these threads to rest, Think god. With all this crap you think ryan anderson would just up his 3pt shot attempts to avg 15.1 a game, which would probably be what melo would avg.

I say time to end the melo to houston rumors, its done.

I don't care if Melo is a Rocket already if he will be a Rocket sometime this season. And no, a low first round pick isn't worth that much. All that Clippers got from it was for ATL to take the $14M remaining on Jamal Crawford's contract.

Not necessarily. A smart GM would know what he could do with Anderson's contract before next summer. There are going to be salary dump teams available next summer for sure. They know they can't compete this year...so whats the point? Look at Anderson as a 2-year deal instead.

What if we could get someone to take $14M from Ryan Anderson's contract?
