So I'm still annoyed that the rockets lost out on Bosh and lost Parsons for nothing. Morey stated numerous times last week that he wants a 3rd star and he clearly doesn't think Parson is that guy. So that got me think as to which NBA player Rockets could have a reasonable chance of acquiring that is better than parsons. My initial thought is that this is going to be very tough to find a player that is all of the following...a) better than parsons...b) the current team would be looking to trade that player for our assets....c) the newly acquired player would be a good fit along with Howard,Harden, and Ariza(I don't think he gets moved). So I started with this list of 100 nba players put together by the CharlotteObserver.com in June of this year. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/06/20/4993082/nba-top-100-players.html#.U9ADcrHyRK4

    Paul George
    Rajon Rondo

    Kobe Bryant
    Al Jefferson
    DeMarcus Cousins
    Damian Lillard
    Goran Dragic
    DeMar DeRozan
    Dirk Nowitzki
    Zach Randolph
    Marc Gasol
    Chris Bosh
    Derrick Rose
    Ty Lawson
    Anthony Davis
    Roy Hibbert
    Dwyane Wade
    Deron Williams
    Mike Conley
    Jeff Teague
    Serge Ibaka
    Bradley Beal
    Kyle Lowry
    Eric Bledsoe
    Joe Johnson
    Marcin Gortat
    Greg Monroe
    Andre Drummond
    Paul Millsap

    Jrue Holiday
    Chandler Parsons 66
    Gordon Hayward
    Kevin Martin
    Monta Ellis
    Jeff Green
    Wesley Matthews
    Tyson Chandler
    Nikola Vucevic
    Eric Gordon
    Danilo Gallinari
    Andrew Bogut
    Tyreke Evans
    Derrick Favors
    Thaddeus Young
    Jamal Crawford
    Manu Ginobili
    Kenneth Faried
    Nene
    Taj Gibson
    Jason Thompson
    Brandon Jennings
    Paul Pierce
    Michael Carter-Williams
    Kawhi Leonard
    D.J. Augustin
    Ricky Rubio

    Kyle Korver
    JR Smith
    Jonas Valanciunas
    Anderson Varejao
    Ray Allen
    Spencer Hawes
    Ryan Anderson
    Omer Asik

Now I will admit this list is pretty shaky especially those ranked towards the bottom quarter of this list. But to be in line with Morey's philosophy we only need to consider players ahead of parsons on the list at #66 or a player close enough to parson's ranking where a reasonable argument can be made that player x would be better than parsons.

As I suspected the picks are very slim. It's not everyday teams give up on a James Harden type(yes even with his flaws). There is the usually targets (Love, Rondo, Josh Smith, Paul Milsap) and couple of guys that are wishful targets but in the end of the offseason will likely stay with their original teams(Dragic, Bledsoe, Monroe). That leaves us with guys like Ty Lawson, Teague, and maybe Zbo(I highly doubt it). These guys are good players but not significantly better than Parsons. I've been a stronger supporter of Morey but the way this Parsons situation was handled proves he does make mistakes. It was clearly a mistake to let Chandler out of his contract a year early and I'm skeptical when it comes the rumor that he had a wink wink deal as long as he delivered Howard. As much as I want to have faith in Morey, I just don't see where this 3rd star is going to be coming from.

You're just gonna ignore Ariza being a couple spots ahead of Parsons?

Just to emphasize what has been said

So glad we ditched the primadonna at 66 and paid half price for 64.

Why is Harden considered a better player than Dwight?

It's so fashionable to hate on Dwight, but that playoff performance showed he's in the upper echelon of all NBA players.

Joakim Noah in front of him too. LOL

It's interesting how the two teams with more than one top 10 player haven't had much playoff success.

Anthony Davis should be in top 5 and by the end of next season he will be.

Chandler at 66? He should feel offended!

he almost pipped him for first team, so it's not a 100-0 thing, it's more like a 60-40 thing

What on earth is Westbrook doing down at 16 though.

And also, Anthony Davis at 31 is the biggest joke ever. I think he's already a top 10 player in the league.

He needs to learn how to defend first (and no blocking shots isn't what i mean), i don't doubt he'll get there but he's where ibaka was 2-3 years ago, blocking everything and out of position all the time. He's a big, it's integral.

Manu at 81 and Leonard at 88. Anyone who would not have been happy to trade Parsons for Leonard? Manu is old, but he's still better than many of the people above him. Spurs players get no respect for their individual abilities because they play unselfishly.

It's also because Popovich is arguably the best coach in NBA history. It probably makes people give less credit to the players. I'm probably one of those people.

wow this list has some glaring issues...Just on first glance I noticed:
Westbrook outside of the top 10, a Davis at 31, Melo too low, Kawhi too low, Kobe too high, dirk too low, Ibaka way too low, and last but not least, Rubio waaay to low and under DJ Augustine?????

Some glaring mistakes all around. Pekovic way too low. Ginobili way too low. Rudy Gay slightly overrated, possibly because he puts up volume stats.

You give any NBA player the green light to take 25 shots a game and they'll get you 22+ points per game. I value PER and efficiency more than volume stats like raw PPG.

Pekovic is an absolute beast. I can't believe someone seriously put Luol Deng or Afflalo above Pekovic.

Kawhi Leonard gets finals MVP and he's ranked 88 and yet somehow he's considered worse than Jason Thompson. That's pretty bold.

dude do you think ariza is the 3rd star Morey was looking for? And yes I already acknowledge there are many questionable rankings way to ignore most of what I wrote about.
