JVG started off complimenting the Rockets, saying they were playing outstanding basketball, the second best team in the West, and the only team capable of challenging and overtaking GSW. Then Mark brought up the starters leaving the Knicks game super early. Mark: You've got to be professional, you can't leave the court. I don't care about working out or treatment, or whatever. It was an embarrassment for the NBA and that's unacceptable. JVG: I really can't believe that happened in this league. Could you imagine in the NFL if everyone left early? There would be an uproar. In our league, it's just the next thing. Mark: I saw PJ Tucker's comments, and I understand, and one guy can feel that way. But, somebody in that organization has to say "We can't do that." That's not how you handle business, and that's not how you conduct yourself in this league during the course of a game. JVG: And I was surprised after a day of reflection when they came back that they didn't just say "That's our fault. That wasn't the right thing for this league, or for our organization." And by the way, you can get treatment 5 minutes later!! What's the big deal?? I'm a bit embarrassed.
I actually agree with them. It's not like they needed immediate treatment or else some problem is otherwise exacerbated. Even if they did leave for an immediate problem to get treated, they could have come back at any time before the game ended, to support the rest of the players. It's just not a good look.
Let's put aside whether this behavior is right or wrong. As one of the most hated team, with some most hated players in Harden and Paul, they should know better not to give others one more reason to hate them. Plus, their bench guys are probably the most sacrificing group in the league because of the way we play. Everyone is getting a minimized role, pretty much "you stand and watch on offense, then hustle your ass on defense", because we have Harden and Paul who dominate the ball. Those guys deserve some cheering too, when playing the garbage minutes. Our arena is already half empty... I am a bit disappointed too, quite honestly.
I think it's stupid. People don't think it's disrespectful to the Rockets, they are saying it's disrespectful to the Knicks. Rockets are supported -- CP3 just bought Gary a damn car.. Don't worry about their support. I hope the Rockets are in a position tonight to leave the bench again.
