A vote for individual, but just about any nacho is better than no nacho. I can eat just so much canned cheese though. And a good seven (or however many) layer dip can be as good as some of the best nachos and certainly better than some of the marginal ones. I live a very comfortable life, and eating a decent steak every day would not be a burden, but if I had to take steak every day or refried beans, I’d pick the beans in a heartbeat. Ultimate comfort food.
Great topic. I prefer individually made as long as they have canned jalapeños on them. However, some of the best kitchen sink nachos I’ve ever had are at the Pappasito’s at Hobby. Can’t get them in the normal restaurants but holy **** are they amazing. El tiempo has some good individual nachos with beef fajita on them
The secret to the nacho is in the chip. Without the chip, it would just be toppings. It would be anarchy!
Speaking of dips, y'all have to try this one. It is always completely gone every time I make it for functions. Numero Uno Bean Dip 15 oz. refried beans 4 oz. cream cheese, softened 1 1/2 c. sour cream 1/4 c. green onions, finely chopped 3/4 c. picante sauce 1 pkg. taco seasoning 4 oz. can green chilies, diced 1/2 tsp. oregano 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 1/2 c. grated cheese (Jack and/or cheddar) tortilla chips Preheat oven to 350º, lightly oil 9x13 pan. Mix everything except the cheese and put in pan. Sprinkle cheese on top. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake uncovered for 30 more minutes. Serve with chips.
Was it not listed on the menu? Like when you customize a burger...avocado, bacon, xtra cheese, etc.... A tostada is just 1 giant nacho, and usually inferior to individuals. Not sure why that was even a question. This guy knows.
Option 2. I carefully construct each nacho. It doesn't take any time at all. I agree with those who say option 1 leads quickly to a soggy mess. If you have them that way, don't waste any time eating the things!
I concur, but option 2 is the way both my stepmother and mother made them -- and only beans, cheese, and jalapeño. I didn't know there was any other way except neatly on a cookie sheet in an oven. I was an adult before I ever ate Mexican food outside of South Texas or Mexico and was confused when they were served to me heaped onto a messy plate.
Does anyone have a good vegetarian nachos recipe? And what do people prefer -- cheese sauce, or melted shredded cheese?
