Your friend is not a Rocket fan. Or at least not a knowledgeable one.

Yet, another trade in favor of the Lakers, Bynum would probably become injury prone in Houston and Yao will probably go 3 or 4 years without a serious injury....

I think your Rocket friend is overrating the 30 games Bynum played. The trade would be a rebuild trade. It's not the greatest deal, but it's a realistic one if we were some Eastern conference scrub team...

It's great for the Lakers though. They could play Yao <30 minutes in the regular season and ride that wave to the promised land.

    This gotta be a joke.

1st, Rox home court average attending record is one of the lowest in the league.

2nd, Yao's jersey never sells much, not in usa, not in china.

3rd, Though Yao does bring viewerships from overseas, that broadcasting contract money would have to be divided amont all 30 teams.

To suppose that Yao is making Les richer is just absurd.

Can you imagine KobeOnlyFans vs 'the new Laker fans?'
or how about when the 'new Laker fans' think he's better than Shaq or Kareem or Chamerlain. or when 'new Laker fans' blame Kobe

    :D :p

Why does everyone want to make the Lakers a better team? It's not enough that they have Kobe, Odom, Gasol and Bynum in a lineup. Now you want to make it Kobe, Odom, Gasol, and Yao?

Sorry everybody's being weird in here, but that's probably just a response to the strangeness of that trade scenario.

From my standpoint, Yao is much more talented than Bynum at the moment. True - who knows what the future holds for Andrew, but Ming is a proven franchise player and a guaranteed cash cow even when injured or ineffective (see last year and early rookie year respectively).

Then, while Ariza is a good piece, he's not the type of player who would command more than an MLE contract, which we get every offseason. So he wouldn't offset the difference more than one free agent signing would anyway.

If we traded Yao, we'd essentially be losing our franchise's core - and who in their right mind would replace that with Bynum and Ariza?

You are joking right? Even freaking Rick Adelman got a shoe deal from Anta.
Plus, the Rockets had 94.7% attendance this season, good for 16th (One of the lowest? Nope)

Yao = most valuable player on the Rockets in terms of endorsements he brings and other financial contributions he brings.
