I have settled on a final NFL mock draft with about 2 weeks remaining (2017). I will name 1) my wish list of
players per round for each round that the Texans currently have. 2) Then top pick from that list as if available
for "ideal" situational/hypothetical selection. 3) Since draft is so deep at certain positions....I present a trade out
of 1st round for additional 2nd & 5th in this years draft; **trade of future picks for additional 3rd round pick.

Keep in mind many of these players are rated so close that many can get selected rounds earlier or later.
Especially if one team falls in love with a player like the Cowboys did with Travis Frederick.

[1]Round 1: TJ Watt ILB/OLB, Jabrill Peppers S-Corner, Bolles OT, Ramczyk OT, Haasan Reddick LB,
    .................Obi Melifonwu CB
Round 2: Jarrad Davis LB, Raekwon McMillian ILB, Moton OT, Marcus Maye S, Jake Butt TE,
    .................Chidobe Awuzie CB
Round 3: Julie'n Davenport OT, Antonio Garcia OT, Anthony Walker ILB, Eddie Jackson S,
.................Vince Biesel OLB, Nate Peterman QB, Roderick Johnson OT
Round 4: Alex Anzalone ILB/OLB, Eric Magnuson OT, Chad Wheeler OT, Jale Myrick CB,
.................Damontae Kazee CB, Orion Stewart S
Round 5: Tedric Thompson S, Des Lawrence CB, Marquez White CB, Duke Riley ILB/OLB
Round 7: Facyson CB, DeAngelo Yancey WR, Rashaad Coward NT, Brandon Reilly Slot WR.

    [2]Round 1: TJ Watt LB...............................................................[3]Round 2 A) Raekwon McMillian LB
    Round 2: Moton OT.........................................................................Round 2 B) Moton OT
Round 3: Nate Peterman QB (may need to move up in 3rd)..........Round 3 A) Nate Peterman QB
    Round 4: A) Damontae Kazee CB..................................................Round 3 B) Jake Butt TE
    ................B) Orion Stewart S...........................................................Round 4 A) Damontae Kazee CB
    Round 5: Tedric Thompson S..........................................................Round 4 B) Orion Stewart S
    Round 7: DeAngelo Yancey WR......................................................Round 5 A) Tedric Thompson S
..........................................................................................................Round 5 B) Des Lawrence CB
    ..........................................................................................................Round 7 DeAngelo Yancey WR

Sign as undrafted free agents: Rashaad Coward NT/ Facyson CB/ Tim Crawley S-WR/RB/ Brandon Reilly S-WR.
    RB's/ WR's/NT's/LB's/OL

I believe after May 9th the Texans can sign a current free agent without it hurting next years projected
compensatory picks (estimated to be 4 picks with the best being a 3rd rounder). Vollmer (33 y/o) OT,
    Clady (31 y/o) OT, Pasztor (26 y/o) OT

**Trade of future picks for an early 3rd round pick in this years draft: next years 4th round pick and 7th.
Texans will have 4 compensatory picks next year (probably starting in 3rd).

    QB class next year:
    Sam Darnold (USC)
    Josh Rosen (UCLA)
    Luke Falk (Wash St)
    Josh Allen (Wyoming)
    Jarrett Stidham (Auburn)
    Nick Fitzgerald (Miss St)
    Chase Litton (Marshall)

Free Agent QB's per Spotrac 2018:
    Drew Brees
    Kirk Cousins
    Sam Bradford
    Matt Stafford
    Derek Carr
    Geno Smith
    Garoppolo
    EJ Manuel
    Matt McGloin
    Kellen Moore
    Zach Mettenberger
    Chase Daniel
    Savage
    Weeden

Texans will have options at QB next year. If Savage does well......the Texans will pursue.

Hope everyone can see why I skimped in my draft on OT and QB (weakest areas in this draft class)
Next years QB class will have players fall; while others separate themselves from the others.
In scouting them all seem to be in Spread offenses (Nick Fitzgerald favors Run-Option).
    My quick run on each:
Sam Darnold: I hate his mechanics. Tebow-like long wind up. Thumbs Down
Josh Rosen: Spread-Offense using timing routes. Does everything well. Scans the field w/excellent pocket
.....................presence. Throw hard when he needs to; throws with touch when he needs to. Good arm
.....................strength (shld surgery-not sure if it was throwing shld). Peyton Manning Academy disciple.
.....................Closest thing to Andrew Luck since Andrew Luck. 2 Thumbs Up
Luke Falk: looked good with his passes. Throws well. I expect him to make improvement. 1 Thumb Up
Josh Allen: Normal release with normal windup. Throws well. Expect him to make improvement. 1 Thumb Up
Jarrett Stidham: Needs to tighten up his wind up.....sometimes drops elbow. Thumb Down
Nick Fitzgerald: too much running in Read-option. Good release. Scans the field. Thumb Sideways
Chase Litton: Was blown-Away. Stands tall (6'6") in the pocket well, throws with zip, throws with touch.
......................his height is not a negative with him like other QB's that are tall. I hate comparing anyone
......................to another player; but I thought Joe Montana when I saw him. Throws very well rolling left
......................or right. One word description in looking at his footage....."Magic." 2 Thumbs Up

With the draft additions of OT, Jake Butt who is the quintessential blocking/catching TE for this offense,
Safeties, Corners. I believe the Texans should trade up next year to # 2 or #3 to get one of the top
3 QB's in next years draft. The race will have been built this year.....just add the driver next year.
Soup ingredients in place just add water.

Two guys I don't want the Patriots getting are Jake Butt and DeAngelo Yancey (His dropped passes can be fixed). Therefore I draft them.

Curious to see any comments. Final Mock drafts of your own? 3-5 Round Mock Draft before the actual draft?

Looks like decent analysis, but i never get that deep.

Only responding to note that your formatting makes your post hard to read, really.

Yes, it hard to predict who will be available and when. I used about 8 recent mock drafts from
well recognized sites to get guesstimates of players with round taken.

I'm hoping to see up to 3 round mock hopefuls from readers.
I'm not here to comment or criticize anyone. Like to see the concensus. From my trade back scenario:
    Offense:
    ........................................................................Lamar Miller (RB)/Blue/Ervin
    ...........................................................................Savage (QB)/Weeden/Peterman (R)

    ....Hopkins (WR)...............CJ Fiedorowicz (TE).................................................Braxton (WR)........Fuller (WR)
    ....Strong/Mumphery.........Griffin/Anderson...............................................Jake Butt (TE)(R).......Yancey(R)..

    ......................Moton (R)................Mancz..............Mancz.................Slade....................Lamm.....
    ......................Pasztor (RT).........J Allen (RG)........Martin (C)..........Su'a Filo (LG)..........D Brown (LT)...
    .....................or Clady/Vollmer

    Defense:
............................JJ Watt (DE) ....................................Reader (NT) ............................Clowney (DE)..
    ............................Covington........................................Coward (R).................................Heath..........

    ......Cushing (OLB).....................McKinney (ILB)...........................McMillian (ILB)(R).............Mercilus (OLB)
    ......Scarlett.................................Brian Peters...............................Max Bulluogh..............Tony Washington

    .......
Joseph (CB)................Orion Stewart (FS)(R) ............Tedric Thompson (SS)(R)......Kevin Johnson (CB)
    .......R Nelson...............Corey Moore/Drummond..............KJ Dillion/Pleasant..............Des Lawrence (R)

    ..............................Kareem Jackson (Nickle CB)
    ..............................Damontae Kazee (Dime CB)(
    R)
    ..............................Prosch (FB)

I say they get to keep #25 if they traded a player with that 2nd rounder.

    I'll say:
    1a Mahomes QB
    1b Cam Robinson OT
    3 Jake Butt TE
    4a Isaac Asiata OG
    4b Corn Elder CB
    5 Tanoh Kpassagnon DE
    7 Ryan Switzer WR

Every year i hope for a Brees-Rivers type of situation

Pick a QB if you can. This cant go on any longer.

Literally one QB drafted in 1st of franchise history. Our 1st rounders been killing it since D. Brown. Ride the luck

In post thread #1 you see............
1] those are top picks or a pool of players I like each round. But it changes as players are selected or trades happen. GM's set a grade on a player. Let's say a perfect score is 98. GM's/Teams pick a guy
that they feel comfortable with his grade at that particular round coupled with team need. If a guy grades
as an 86 (Mahomes)......do you select him in the first round if a guy like TJ Watt or Bolles is available; and they grade out as 89 or 90?

2] my selection shows TJ Watt

3] what I would do is trade back out of 1st for additional picks (early 2nd). Many mocks I have seen show McMillan
going in the early 2nd round. I would move Cushing to OLB (Jon Simon's spot last year).

It is a long thread. It's basically to threads in one. Tried showing that the QB's next year are much better.
That kind of clutters the thread. Now less than a week to go.....I don't think there is any way the Texans
draft one of the so-called top 5 QB's.

Just hope Houston fans are ready for that. Brace yourselves.

I really think the team will mortgage future draft picks in order to make move during this draft. I get the feeling that there will be one more hail marry, all-in push with this current roster before they press the reset button.

I'll have a hard time really caring much about next season if we don't draft a QB early (at least 2nd round, preferably 1st). Even though, whoever he is, he'll likely not play next year, it'd at least give some hope for the future.

    Hopefully its Mahomes

It will be interesting if they go 9-7 again with poor QB situation.
O'Brien may force their hand to allow him to go get a QB HE wants if they wish to retain his services and who wouldn't?
That would make 4 winning seasons with poor QB situation. Some teams can't boast that with a reasonable QB.

I will be shocked if we pick a QB in the first 2 rounds. Pleasantly surprised, but shocked.

I'll give a shot at the first 3 rounds:

1st Round: Obi Melifonwu - Lost Bouye/Demps and Obi has ability to fill either position. Long rangy DB that could help the defense from Day 1. Rick has no issue with going DB early, a lot of times out of the blue as well.

2nd Round: Antonio Garcia - Think the OL will be addressed by the 2nd round at the latest.

3rd Round - Nathan Peterman - Seems like a BoB guy IMO. If Peterman is still available in the 3rd, won't be surprised if we move up for him.

Here is one of my sleepers.

This kids got great hands and he's a very physical, tough player.
He needs to bulk up but other than that, he's ready.

Read somewhere yesterday that the BOB and the Texans actually don't like Peterman very much. Not sure if that's true or not but I found it interesting.

Peterman is really the only QB rated that takes snaps from center a fair amount (pro-style system) and look half
decent. Took Goff all last year just learning how to takes snaps from center coming from that "Air-Raid" scheme.
Not as easy as just taking snaps from center, turning and handing the ball off to Gurly.....as most people think.

@Jatman20 I really like your detailed analysis. I'm with you on Peppers. I still see a run on QBs at 12-24 after the Browns make their QB selection. It's not worth trading up into the teens for a QB in this draft when the feeding frenzy begins.

Jon Gruden liked Peterman a bunch. I think he is very adequate. Here is Clemson (Watson) vs
Pitt (Peterman) nov 18, 2016. Gruden referenced this game. I know it mins before the draft....but
watch if the Texans draft Peterman on day Two.
