Well, it's a conspiracy when you try to pin it on one person/organization driving it. But, whatever the reason, it's definitely happening.

Most likely it's just the media doing what the media does... circulating and sensationalizing second-hand sources under the guise of news, and then doubling down on it when it gets attention.

 

I agree that's a thing for sure. That's human nature. I just don't believe the league is in the bag for favored teams.

 

It is a fact that the media now uses their influence to propagandize.

Not a conspiracy theory, but you definitely get the vibe many are pushing the Paul-to-LA narrative.

 

To answer your question, unfortunately, there are many fans that believe leagues conspire for or against certain teams. We see evidence of it all the time in the GARM.
