I've grew up spending part of my summer vacations in a little town of less than 350 in Nebraska, and that was as close as I got to that type of life. People always waved when you passed them, or when they drove by. Part of it was probably just the farming community type people. It was such a different feel than the city life. Pearland and Sagemont used to almost have that little community feel many moons ago, but nothing they still weren't near that small.

 

If what I'm hearing is accurate, this guy shouldn't have been able to buy or own a firearm in the first place due to him receiving a dishonorable discharge from the military. I'm wondering if someone else bought it for him.....if so, they'll be in a LOT of trouble.

If your stated goal is to reduce murders, then obviously part of that is understanding why there is variation in homicide rate across different areas. For example: why is the US homicide rate so much higher than other developed countries in Europe? How can anyone sensibly tackle that question while ignoring how people are getting murdered?

And assuming that increased accessibility to highly lethal weapons has no effect on a homicide rate is "moronic", IMO.

If an instance of a person who couldn't legally own a firearm going to a place where it is illegal to possess a firearm and shoots the place up isn't enough to convince you that laws making it illegal for him to do what he did would have stopped him, I don't know what is.

So if you picked 7 instances of murders with a different weapon, would that then be a different pattern? How about 7 instances of terrorist attacks with trucks? How about 7 instances of attacks with knives?

I mean, I get what you are trying for, but you are trying too hard.

 

You need to look at both.

 

Every time there's a shooting, multiple statistics get posted about gun deaths, homicides/murders, countries with guns vs. no guns, suicides, gun-related violence... yet somehow gun suporters seem to herp derp right over them every time. I get that you love your guns and you have your faux masculine security blanket with them. But there's nothing that shows society is safer with them.

Of course this rampage, by a man who could not legally own a firearm brought to a place that was illegal to bring firearms, was stopped by a citizen with a legally owned and legally used rifle....I mean, that sort of suggests that the armed citizen kind of made things safer by putting and end to the rampage. Of course, let's herp derp right past that and pretend that throwing a few more laws on the books to make what the guy did double secret illegal instead of just regular illegal would have made things better.
