Moses Malone. A mountain of a Man. God bless his family, the Rockets family and his dear friend Calvin Murphy during this time of remembrance.

So sad and stunned right now. My first memories of watching the Rockets and becoming a fan for life were of Moses Malone and Calvin Murphy playing in the Summit. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. RIP Big Mo.

    Damn :(

Had the pleasure of meeting him at Fonde Rec Center. Very humble man and easygoing. RIP MOSES!

I responded to the post in the NBA section about this as well.

One of my favorite players EVER.

    SO SO saddened by this.

Me and a few of my friends would go up to Fonde during the summer to check out their summer league. AWESOME memories of Big Mo and a young Hakeem (before his soph yr) going at it.

It cracks me freaking up to see these lists that come out about the greatest centers of all time, and seeing how low people have Big Mo ranked (or if ranked at all). If you ever saw him play during his Rocket's/ 76er's time frame ('76--86) you'd have him in the mix amongst Hakeem, Kareem & Russell as the greatest of all-time (and YES over Shaq).

Could Shaq have taken that Rocket team that had basically nothing, and beat Kareem/Magic in the playoffs and all the way to the NBA finals against Boston?

    HELL NO!!!

He won not one, not two, but THREE MVP's and TWO of those bad boy's were with the Rocket's!!!

RIP Big Mo and I will keep your family in my prayers.

This so sad and unexpected. Thank you Moses for your help in building the Rockets in the late 70's and early 80's and for teaching Olajuwon.
I am reminded of the quote "If I have seen further than others, it is by
standing upon the shoulders of giants."

I hope the rec center in the sky is ready for you.

This is happening too often. Legends and past world class athletes dying way too young. RIP Moses. Your contributions to mold a young Hakeem will be forever remembered.

Devastating news. Met him once when I was a kid at Jr's basketball camp. I know Jr & Calvin are hit hardest by this loss. Sad day to be a Rockets fan.

I did not know this. A great player RIP.

My brother and I were able to play against him there once. Kind of a joke, of course (he was waiting for the regulars). But Moses truly "held court" there.
