@4:15 Back in August Dan Patrick suggests playing big as counter to the Warriors and playing small and.. Morey flat out says “100% agree” States that the bigs must be able to guard the perimeter and that the Clint and Dwight line up in the past worked ( then says he doesn’t know if those two would work haha) I remember when I heard it back at the beginning of the season and I keep wondering if we were ever going to find the piece to make this work. When we signed Faried I was low key intrigued but still am shocked. Moral: Morey is out here telling you he is going to shoot a 3 and does it.
I don't know. I think every year, whatever we end up with whether it was the plan or not, Morey makes it seem like it's a sneaky underrated move. It can work, but it has to be elite talent driven. Throwing together any big pieces you have is a totally different thing.
Yea but he said this back in August when we had just signed Melo. We didn’t have big personnel then. Doesn’t seem like he even had a plan to do so. Just the right player came along and he knew it was an advantage.
Underrated by whom? We have been asking for a legit PF for 20 years now. Scola was as close as we came prior to Faried.
Nene faints Faried plays bigger than 6'6" and moves his feet well. He now features 3's, jumpshots, and crossovers. How long will it last ?!!
6' 10" with a 7' 5" wingspan + masterful defensive+offensive instincts and the agility to switch against all but the fastest guards on the perimeter > any big in the NBA barring #1 overall picks (KAT, AD) Faried is 6' 7" without shoes, and while he's an awful rebounder for a center he'd be one of the best rebounding forwards in the league.
no other NBA player's barefoot height is used as a basis for saying how tall they are so why talk about it with faried? he's 6'7.75" in shoes (so his 6'8" official listing isn't off), with a 7' wingspan and a 9' standing reach.
If both bigs can't shoot, then I think it won't work. If Faried can make those wide open 3s then they can keep the defense honest and not pack the paint.
To play small effectively, your smalls have to be big. It works with Ariza and Luc, but not with the likes of Austin Rivers and Eric Gordon. It is really too bad that the team was not allowed to spend more than the minimum on a SF this season and all the minimum guys are scrubs like Melo and Ennis and MCW.
Yea, sorry this isn’t 2008 anymore. You can’t use a PF who is just iffy in the post. It’s way harder now. You have to shoot 3’s and be able to defend the perimeter. How many of those guys are big power forwards?
