    THANK YOU!

It would really piss me off when people would post crap on here about avoiding the mid-range J. Stats have their role in the game, no doubt, but a lot of posters were really showing thier ignorance of the game on this issue.

Lol at the JTR reference HMMMMM.

Morey needs a weekly talkshow to squash myths like this.

Of course Morey says this in public. He doesn't want other teams to catch on to his secret. :p

Also, now we know why Morey loves Dwight so much: Dwight is a 6'9" PF.

I mean, if nothing else it is good because it means the defense has to cover more types of shots, right?

    i agree w Morey

The shots you want to avoid are the long 3's (5 ft outside of the 3pt circle) that are contested. Those are horrible

    My brief synopsis:

    - An open mid-range can be efficient. It's the contested ones that aren't.
    - If both Dwight and Asik are on the floor, Dwight will play PF.
    - Looking at many different options at the 4, including TJones/DMo/GSmith, small ball, and Dwight (paired with Asik).
    - Feels that there are 3 teams better than the Rockets (Miami, SA, and OKC). Might be more.
    - No comment on TJones' situation.
    - Part of the advantage of having Asik is they can continue to play at a fast pace, giving Dwight some rest throughout games.

Also terrible are "blocked" shots. But you see guys taking them in practically every game. Even Lebron takes them sometimes, smh.

Morey said avoiding the mid range is "a little overplayed". He clearly didn't say that you shouldn't avoid them.

    "a bit over played"
    How much is a bit?
"wide open 2 point shots are efficient with no one guarding you"
That is pretty much obvious. How often can a team get a wide open mid range shot? Three times a game?
"defenses cannot completely ignore the mid range shot"
Well of course. You cannot just leave them wide open.

Basically because a 3-23 foot shot yields 30% less PPS league wide than at the rim or treys why would a smart team ever take them (unless they are wide open - which most of them obviously are not)?

Shot distribution of a great player:

I like how the interviewer asked Daryl Morey about Terrence Jones's incident in Seattle, but it happened in Portland...haha

He also alluded to something he has said in the past, which is that the mid-range shot is better when the player is heading toward the basket. So clearly they have a more refined vision of the mid-range shot than simply never to take them.

I'm pretty sure the idea is to take open shots when you have them, but to avoid running plays that focus on getting an open mid range shot.

Mid range shots inevitable, but it doesn't mean you should look to get an open mid range shot.

I disagree. If you have players that excel at shooting but are horrible at penetration, and the opponent team's big men have excellent defense in paint + shot blockers, then it's more efficient to make the game plan so that you take mid range shots.

Or design a gameplan for 3 point shots instead..?
