Go see Aruba77s thread about what Johnathan Feigan of the Chronicle said for details.

We have a $4.5m trade exception available for one year. We received this through both the Pippen and Francis trades.

For those who want to know what the $4.5m can do for us, since it only counts towards trades, here's a simple scenario:

We can now trade either Mobley or TMass, straight up, for $5m players with no cap restrictions. We don't have to package them with the Wizard (which should make the receiving team happier, because they take on less salary).

Disclaimer: I have a feeling I'm going to get beat up on this one. I'm just the messenger here.

    Let the trading begin!

I have been talking to a capologist guru.

Francis salary did not count in the trade, since he was an unsigned rookie. We picked up $2.6m right there. Add Dickerson, Othella, Price, Carr and subtract TMass, MacLean...there's a big gap there.

Then consider Pippen's huge salary, 15% of that allowed as "trade gap" is a significant number by itself.

I think we are close enough to go ahead an allow Feigan's number to be correct. Forget that he was incorrect in other parts of the claim. Surely he has confirmation on the number.

    dreamshake,

I started this thread because i don't think feigan is wrong about the exception number. Other things were wrong...but that is irrelevant if we indeed have $4.5m exception.

Raw mathematics and lack of true contract terms (to know for sure) lends me to back Feigan on the numbers.

I bet he is correct on the numbers.
