Hey guys, looking for some advice here. Just had Comcast come to my office and try to upgrade my phone system. The jury is still out on that one, however I did notice my cable bill once they showed me my costs and I am paying $10/ month to rent their modem that I have to reset twice a week.

I told the guys I'd like to get my own modem. The salesman said it wasn't possible and the tech guy said you can get one of three modems that they can still vpn into. I am not sold that I need them to trouble shoot me if anything goes down since most times resetting the modem will fix it.

So my question to you guys is, what is a good modem to run for my small business? Is there a different class of modem between business/residential? What specs should I be looking for? Essentially I have 8 computers where minimum capacity during the day is 2-3 computers being ran while max capacity is 7 computers. I was reading a bit about 8x4 or 16x4 channels and I got a bit confused, can anyone clarify that for me and tell me if that's necessary information when selecting a modem?

    Thanks in Advance!

You have a business account? If so you should not have to restart your modem like really ever. Since you are leasing it I would ask for another one. It's their modem. They need to fix their issue or you need to move away from them.

A business account should be stable. Time Warner in Austin doesn't charge businesses for modem leases. If you're having those problems, Comcast better fix it or look elsewhere.

Yep, Comcast charges me for modem leasing. i'll definitely be giving them a call tomorrow. I got caught up at work and forgot I made this thread. I guess I'll be throwing my 2 cents at comcast and try to get my stuff adjusted.
