Howard admitted that he returned too early from back surgery by debuting at the beginning of last season. He also did not fit well in the offense run by D'Antoni, who replaced Mike Brown early in the season. D'Antoni said, with a smile, that the Rockets use Howard similarly.

"It's tough when you got three Hall of Famers on the floor at the same time," D'Antoni said. "Too bad you're not the No. 1 guy to go to."

It'll be funny and ironic when the Rockets end up with a better record than the Lakers for the better part of the next decade. Who will be laughing then?

lol stop hating on Pringles. Everyone here was blasting how he wrecked the Lakers yet half the people are now want to see more Dwight in pick and roll situations....that's part of why he left LA in the first place.

I think he gave a bunch of excuses as to why he left LA just so he wouldn't have to admit that Kobe is the reason he left.

    He didn't wreck the Lakers.

You realize they traded a bum in Bynum for Howard?

Yeah... well he did so well that he was sacked in NY right after Linsanity.

What do you expect D'Antoni to say? Admitting Dwight's reasons for leaving LA were legitimate would be admitting he's an utterly useless coach because the "No. 1 guy to go to" can't be controlled and doesn't like D'Antoni's offense any more than Dwight does.

D'Antonio and McHale are polar opposites as NBA coaches. I believe that McHale would rather be run over by a tractor trailer than post snide self serving comments on twitter. We all know what offense McHale would prefer to run. But McHale coaches to maximize his players talent, not to feed his own ego. Why LA last season would hire a coach focused on speed and quick shots with those older and slower players like Gasol, Nash and Kobe is beyond me. To me it looks like McHale is giving Howard just enough post up opportunities to keep him satisfied and allow him to improve his game. No more. A very intelligent thing for a NBA coach to do. I am also heartened by McHale's benching of Harden in the LAC game. I doubt D'Antonio has the cojones to do that to Kobe.

The projected attitude behind that statement is why Dwight isn't a Laker today. They simply didn't respect his game. D'Antoni for that matter disrespected Pau as well. You can't disrespect a guy of Dwight's stature in the league like that and expect that everything will work out. I don't care if you're Michael Jordan. You can't disrespect another superstar of Dwight's ilk and not expect it to have consequences.

Lakers and Jim Buss completely botched this. It's on them. They can continue to sling blame on Dwight but the end of the story is they lost the best center in the NBA for nothing. Jim Buss is the person that hired D'Antoni and ran the ship amuck out there. And it's still amuck. That won't change unless Jim Buss changes himself (very unlikely) or unless Jim Buss realizes that he needs to step aside and let little sis handle personnel and coaching matters.

Every organization has a few D'Antonis. OK at their job, not great. But really good at the intra-office politics so they can stay with their company (the NBA) even if they burn out at one position.

How many championships does he have? Heck the city of New York was so excited to have him gone and replaced by Woodson. He will be fired and unemployed soon.

A good coach can play different styles depending on his personnel. See Pat Riley, Rudy T, Popovich.

D'Antoni thought Earl Clark was better than Pau Gasol.
