If we can acquire him, that'll give us another starter on the offensive line. The Texans are definitely going about this the right way, by building a young, experienced offensive line that'll be together for several years. They'll also have experienced depth at most of the positions. A funny thought occured while reading the article. We already have Jeremy McKinney at guard. If we can sign Steve McKinney at guard & draft Steve's younger brother, Seth, at center, we could field a team with 3 McKinney's on the offensive line. The article also lists some other players that the Texans might be looking to acquire. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/fb/nfl/1279237 Free agent McKinney to visit By CARLTON THOMPSON Copyright 2002 Houston Chronicle INDIANAPOLIS -- Unrestricted free agent Steve McKinney is scheduled to visit Texans officials and tour the team's facilities this week, according to league sources. McKinney, a four-year starter at guard for the Indianapolis Colts, is expected to be in town Monday. McKinney was born in Galveston and attended Clear Lake High School. The Texans selected five offensive linemen in the expansion draft, each with starting experience in the NFL. The tackle positions are set, but the Texans would like to upgrade one or two of the interior positions, occupied by Matt Campbell, Jeremy McKinney and Ryan Schau, for depth-chart purposes. Jeremy McKinney is no relation to Steve McKinney, but Steve is the older brother of Texas A&M center Seth McKinney, who is attending the combine this weekend. Free-agent quarterback Jeff Blake, released by the Saints, said the Texans are among the teams that have expressed interest in his services. The others are Buffalo, Baltimore, Washington, Chicago and Carolina. Blake is believed to be leaning toward the Bills. The Texans, Patriots and Packers are among the teams that have put out feelers on receiver Donald Hayes, who played for Carolina last season. The Texans also are interested in Green Bay receiver Corey Bradford. Hayes is a big target, but he had a down year in 2001, playing with rookie quarterback Chris Weinke. Bradford is intriguing to the Texans because of his above-average speed. The Texans also are believed to have expressed interest in Falcons linebacker Henri Crockett and Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson. Linebacker is a weakness for the Texans, whose 3-4 defense will feed off the play of its linebackers.
