Per John McClain's twitter: the Texans coaches love Kasey Studdard and have pretty much anointed him their left guard, so they won't bother to re-sign Chester Pitts. Only Kris Brown remains of the original Texans, and his job is in jeopardy too.
Brown is still under contract, Pitts wasn't. Brown will be here competing for a job in training camp most likely. Sad to see Chester go, but he was a bit overrated. Average offensive lineman at best.
Chester got boned more than OD... season ending injury in the final year of his contract.. and now over 30... ouch
Kasey Studdard was at least as good last year as Pitts has been in most years. I think you just like ragging on the Texans, based on your posts in this forum. Are you even a Texans fan?
Dude, he was a rock at LG and probably the best lineman in the history of this franchise. Studdard was pretty bad last season imo, I don't really understand why they would not even take a look at bringing him back. The running game really struggles without him
I'm a Texans fan but the track record speaks for itself. It's like watching a scary movie and streaming at the TV because you who how it will end and it won't be pretty. It's pretty sad when you watch games and when a FAIL occurs all you do is laugh and cry.
Think about what you just said- best lineman in Texans history. That's like saying Matt Schaub is the best quarterback in Texans history. He has great character and was the most consistent player we had on the line for many years, mostly because the rest of the line was garbage. And he was very durable. On any other team, he's just another average lineman- definitely a capable starter, but nothing special. Studdard was decent, not spectacular...probably not a long-term solution, but can certainly fill the void of Chester Pitts in the meantime at a cheaper price. Parts of the whole. Chris Myers is terrible, and we had a gaping hole at RG when Briesel went down. And I don't think Duane Brown is a particularly good run-blocker yet. If you plugged last-years Studdard into a line with even just a better RG to make up for some of Myers lack of strength (hopefully Antione Caldwell), he's serviceable- which is all that Pitts would be at this point. We're definitely due for an upgrade at that spot within the near future.
Myers is obviously bad, but Studdard is just as terrible. When Pitts was with Myers, the team did not struggle nearly as much running the ball. Studdard is a nice backup who can have spot starts due to injury, he should not be starting on a team hoping to make the playoffs.
Pass protection was actually the best it has ever been last year. I do not know how credit Kasey Studdard deserves.
Man, discussing the OL is so frustrating... cause it's really hard as a fan watching on tv to see who sucks in the run game... so much chaos.
funny thing is by all reports (McClain) The coaching staff is "really happy" with Myers *facepalm* They don't see Caldwell starting this year. smh...
Pitts actually played his heart out til the end and is still recovering from injury. Kris Brown just sucks ass.
Hope the Texans enjoy it come October/Nov when the stadium is emptied out. McNair making it crystal clear that winning doesn't even register as a priority next to maximizing profits. We're sliding back to letting valuable pieces walk, creating additional holes in the lineup, and covering them up with cheap band aid solutions. All this while we're a top revenue-generating team. We're going to get creamed next year unless there's a drastic course correction.
