In a strange twist of events, the Mavs sign Omar Cook, after he was waived from Denver. They traded Satterfield to Denver, Denver keeps Satterfield, waives Cook, and then Dallas picks him up. Coincidence? I think not! They waived Derrick Martin to make room for Cook too.

    Mavs Sign Omar Cook
DALLAS, Nov. 20 -- The Dallas Mavericks announced Tuesday they have signed free agent guard Omar Cook. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In related moves, the Mavericks announced Tuesday they have waived guard Darrick Martin and have activated center Evan Eschmeyer from the injured list. Cook took Eschmeyer's place on the injured list due to left knee tendinitis.

Cook (6-1, 190) was selected in the second round, 32nd overall, in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets after leaving St. John's following his freshman season. He averaged 15.3 ppg and 8.7 apg last year at SJU and ranked second in the nation in assists. He was named Third Team All-Big East Conference, joining Seton Hall's Eddie Griffin (Second Team) as the only freshmen in the conference to be selected to the all-conference team.

Cook became only the second freshman in Big East history to lead the conference in assists, joining Pearl Washington of Syracuse. His 252 assists set a freshman school record, previously held by Erick Barkley, and ranks second on the the all-time single-season charts. He was a McDonald's All-American at Christ the King High School in Queens, N.Y. He averaged 19.0 ppg, 7.0 apg and 4.3 spg as a senior.

Cook will wear No. 20 with the Mavericks.

Martin appeared in three games with the Mavericks playing 22 minutes. Eschmeyer has appeared in three games this season and averaged 0.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 9.3 minutes per game. Eschmeyer had been placed on the injured list on Nov. 8 with a sprained left ankle.
