http://news.discovery.com/animals/mountain-goat-attack.html I don't care that he was 63, his wife has to be embarrassed. Seriously, grab it by the horn, lift its head up, take our your gerber knife, and slice the things throat. Is there such thing as being a man anymore?
What's actually sad is that we've gotten so far away from actual interaction with nature as a society, and replaced it with "Survivor Man" shows and the like - you know, "reality" - that we have people like you making fun of this guy. Perhaps you've never actually been in nature? Seen a mountain goat? If and when we hear about these hikers stupidly trying to get too close, I'll be happy to note their stupidity in that regards, but no need to pile on the dead guy for not acting manly, especially when he apparently did the exact opposite, being the man and trying to scare the goat off.
you do realize that there are different types of goats in the world? I don't think I'd want to encounter a mean 200+lb mountain goat
Yea I enjoy the outdoors. I like to hike. And I always carry a small backpack of survival supplies with me and a manageable knife on my belt. People have survived bear attacks, lion attacks, shark attacks.. Sure you cant just kick this thing in the side.. but fighting for your life you dont think you could manage to come out on top?
i'm not PETA fan, and definately believe in human rights over animal rights, but... why kill the goat? was the goat not behaving as you would expect a mountain goat to behave in that situation? if one of the hikers had killed the goat to save the guy, sure, but what's the point in hunting it down later and killing it?
He's 63 freaking years old. It's a large, wild animal that can run fast and has sharp ass horns. One good goring and your ass is dead if you don't have a tourniquet, hell, maybe even if you do. Will you get off his recently deceased ass already? Jeez.
was in Montana last year and followed on of these and a baby along a trail, scary to think it could have attacked
Agreed. It's not like the goat has developed a taste for human flesh and is going to go on a killing spree. The goat was just defending his territory from an intruder. Seems a little too "eye-for-an-eye" for me.
If an animal species is naturally aggressive, that might be true. The issue is that some animals become diseased and become more aggressive than normal. If thats the case, you run the risk of more attacks and that animal passing on the disease.
umm..he is 63. You dont know what kind of shape he's in. Just because he can hike doesn't mean he has great reflexes or speed. It's not a simple as willing yourself here Kobe...with animals it's very unpredictable. How they act, more than your own actions, can decided whether you can beat them or not.
