Any reports or insight of the games between the select team and the USA team? All i can get regarding Head's performance is this. http://my.nba.com/forum.jspa?forumID=5800006278
People remember Head for what he did last. Utah... The guy can shoot, especially with Yao in the lineup. I don't want him, not at backup SG, we can't afford a specialist at that position in the west. But I don't think you guys realize his value. Not thats its that high. But he is an NBA player.
Main rotation (1-8): 1.Aston 2.McGrady 3.Battier 4.Scola 5.Yao 6. Jackson/Brooks (PG/SG) 7.Barry (SG/SF) 8.Landry (PF) 9.Hayes (C) Outer rotation (10-11): 10.Jackson/Brooks 11.Dorsey Projects & Injury cover (12-15): 12.Novak 13.Head 14.Francis 15.Greene
If Luther is still with the team next year, Barry's arrival pushes him down into a 10-12th man role. For someone that far down the depth chart, you can do a lot worse than Luther Head. He may be one dimensional, but at least he has a dimension-- one in which he is pretty clearly above average among NBA players.
thats exactly what im thinking, keep him, cause hes a specialist a perfect 3rd string for the rockets. people act like he cant score at all. im pretty sure he had 15-20 point games during the regular season and he average around 9 last year and that isnt bad for someone who's going to be our third string next year. if barry is injured i think head is the perfect temporary solution to backup t-mac untill barry is back, same thing for tracy. im not saying he will play in the playoffs, cause i wouldn't want him to. but for a 3rd string guard, i think its perfect. every team needs a shooter.
Isn't that the whole point of spot-up shooters? Hit OPEN shots so the other team has to either not help with his man or risk a high % 3 point shot?
Good news!... only because his value gets a little higher...just a little Trade Luther Head for New Jersey's Sean Williams
Yes, but when all the defense has to do is get within a few feet of him to stop the shot and force him to put the ball on the floor, he is too easy too defend. If Luther was also a good passer OR a decent dribbler OR a decent defender, he would be much more valuable.
The expectations were beyond being a spot-up shooter when he was drafted. Probably the minimum expectation was of him being able to play PG for 10 minutes each game. Bobby Jackson has been around for many years by being able to do that and a bit more. Luther's NBA career probably won't be nearly as long. When Brooks and Jackson were eating into Luther's minutes in the Jazz series, it did not look good for Luther's long term future with the Rockets. He isn't going to be on a Rookie Contract forever and it will be an interesting crossroads for Luther and the Rockets.
where is deke? It's really a hard decision. I'll keep Novak but trade head. Even though now Head is way better player.
Unless he's traded, i could easily see the rockets offering him another contract although very small. He has value as a shooter. If he is traded i could easily see another team getting frustrated with his diffeciencies and him being out of the league pretty soon.
Kyle Korver anyone? I agree with you on Head. But more because he's short and not because he's a "specialist". If you can shoot, I'm fine with having you on my team as long as you aren't a stone on defense. We signed Barry anyway, so Head will probably get less minutes.
