He led the Warriors to a better record than Steve Kerr did. Didn't blow a 3-1 lead in the Finals either.

He's turned Nick Young into a seriously solid player. We all knew Nick could get buckets but his D this year has been nothing short of great. He's become JR Smith v 2

Also, let's not forget Kobe's gone so the team is freed from the farewell tour. Regardless I think very highly of Luke Walton. He's a very smart guy with high basketball IQ. He is also respected by the players. I think he'll have a bright future ahead of him.

Byron Scott and the Black Mamba held the Lakers back

It's also partially because Byron Scott is a terrible coach. And yes, as mentioned by others, Kobe is gone, that freed up more space for players to operate, and let's not forget they have some great talents that were drafted last couple of years. Given that, credits still need to go to Luke Walton for turning a bottom feeding team into a respectable 50% winning team.

He's as good a coach as he was mediocre a player, and he was extremely good at being mediocre.

Great coaches get the best out of their role-players... I'm seriously starting to think Luke Walton is great.

I don't know if he is great, but he is looking very good. Lakers were supposed to be a bottom feeder. Media thinks Uncle P is a legitimate basketball player because of Luke Walton. That alone deserves a Coach of the Year award.

Luke Walton is a great coach. Would take him over D'Antoni.

I don't think Luke Walton is anything special at all. I hope he's there for many years.

Lakers fans don't seem sold. Even for a team short on talent, his rotations are very, very strange.

There isn't a mega dropoff in talent between players on that team. So he likes to keep them fresh and active on defense (similar to Hubie Brown's Grizzlies). And there isn't a single player on that team they wouldn't trade, so they're always being showcased.

Any coaches of the Lakers that will give any minutes to Brewer and Bogut should be fired before half time.
