The only thing I'm going to use this for is to download some kids games to give my 3-year olds something to do on a plane ride. We already have an iPad but don't want to take it on the trip.

Looking for something hopefully less than $100? Any suggestions?

My parents bought my two year old the Nabi Tablet for Christmas. $124 on Amazon.

She doesn't use it though, honestly I have no idea where it is. Even my toddler prefers an iPad.

Gently used is a good bet. If you really don't care about updates or features, a cheap Chinese android tablet is also a good choice.

You can sometimes find a used 2013 nexus 7 for around that price. I bought a 16gb Nexus 7 (with an LTE modem) for $105 off of ebay in perfect condition. Although I think I got really lucky with that price. But a Nexus 7 wont age for a while, it still has fantastic specs and great build quality.

A used 2012 nexus 7 in mint condition goes for under 100 on swappa. I think that's way better than a newer cheap Chinese tablet.

Used Android Dell Venue 7 tablets. Just over $60

Edit: Definitely recommend Android or iPad, just because there are more choices than with Windows on downloadable apps (I have a windows phone, and frequently encounter things I can't download).

I would go with android, but if you want a windows tablet, Microcenter has some cheap windows tablets by winbook. The 8" is for $100 and the 7" is for $70. The Microsoft store has a 7" hp steam for $79 and you get a $25 gift card

Came to say this. I bought a winbook 8 for my 7 year old. She can netflix etc and also poor-mans "dock" it and start to use a real PC.

For a 3 year old though, I'm not sure how much a windows tablet will have content that's age appropriate.

I flew on a Delta flight a couple days ago and they had screens on the back of every seat. All you needed was headphones.

    I'd also suggest the 2012 nexus 7

Check bigtexxxs trash. He uses the toilet paper app to wipe, then throws the tablet away.

My three year old has a cheap Chinese tablet (RCA brand, about $70 at Walmart) and a rubber protective case. It works great for what he needs - free or cheap game apps. The only downside is that it loses its charge quickly. You get a few hours out of it.

He also has an Innotab (yes, spoiled kid) which is made for little people, and the charge lasts practically forever. But their games/apps have to be downloaded through their system, which is kind of slow and a pain; it's more expensive. So I don't have too much on that one. Between the two tablets, he can get through a long day of car riding.
