Looking ahead to 2010, if Yao decides to opt out, it would be time to feast

I've been thinking and have become more inclined to not trade Tracy and just let his 23 mil come off the books. Reason being is that already gives us some flexibility, but if Yao decides to opt out for some reason, that would give us around 40 mil to play with, and we would already have a core of Brooks/Lowry, Ariza, Landry, Scola. If we had 40 mil to spend, who would you guys want?

    Joe Johnson
    Ray Allen
    Amare Stoudamire
    LeBron James
    Dwayne Wade
    Chris Bosh

    Dirk Nowitzki
    Josh Howard
    Mike Redd
    Tyson Chandler
    Manu Ginobili
    Marcus Camby

    Tracy McGrady
    Shaquille O’Neal
    Brad Miller
    Stephen Jackson
    Jermaine O’Neal
    Mike Miller
    Rip Hamilton

    Steve Nash
    Carlos Boozer
    Chris Paul
    Memo Okur

If there's ANY way to get CP3...go for it.

I've never seen the attraction to Stephen Jackson.

After the surgery, Yao wont opt out. MLE offer might be the best he can get due to his unlucky history.

Yao will not opt out, so there is no point of this mind teasing. And if he DOES opt out, then it's probably because he came back in the middle of the season and had a monster performance the rest of the playoffs with the Rockets possibly going to the Finals (extremely unlikely). And in that sense, we wouldnt want him to opt out anyway.

Without Yao Ming, why would any of them come to Houston in 2010? :p :p

    That's why you r a moron.

Our strong squad is a big reason for those FAs to choose us while giving up NY or NJ, Yao is just our framework without which the entire squad will fall down into ruins despite the so much talent we have. The projected 40m blank will inevitably suffer a big bite for re-signing Scola, so the actual space won't be above 30m. Tragically the 30m dollars will end up in overpaid players like Brand, and such signs won't be very uncommon for teams that fail to get their ideal targets like Lebron and Wade. About half of the league are sweeping their rooms for those players of Lebron's caliber, but such kind of players are so countable that there will definitely be many teams disappointed.

Watch us end up choosing between Mo Taylor and Austin Croshere...

Seriously, I think we're better off trading Tmac in a deal for 2 or 3 good players with slightly long/expensive contracts. There's so much talent to be had for cheap. Something along the lines of Tmac + filler for Richardson and Barbosa.

Yao isn't going to opt out unless... there's some kind of "wink, wink" type scenario in order to free up some more cap money.

Yao is owed $17 million in '10. Imagine if he opts out and the Rockets sign him to a 2 year $21 million deal (10 mill in '10, raise to 11 mill in '11) with the second year being a player option. That would give the Rox an additional $7 million under the cap in '10 which could mean the difference between a max offer or a lowball offer for an elite free agent.

And for Yao if he comes back strong, then he can opt out in '11 or sign an extension. If he falters in '10 then he still has another year to prove himself and pockets an additional 4 million that he might not have gotten otherwise. If he cares about team success, he would be giving up money on the table for a better chance to win. Garnett and Shaq took less than the max to help the team's cap situation. Maybe Yao will as well.

That being said, this scenario is unlikely because the NBA could punish the team/players if they get proof that an under-the-table deal was agreed upon, like the Joe Smith scenario.

Would Bosh and Joe Johnson be doable in this hypothetical situation?

If your whole argument is based on that "if", can you please at least state some reasonable "reasons" to support your "if" instead of just when on and masturbating with your wild thoughts?

Has a team ever picked up two star level players in the same offseason??? Yao is honorable and all but he will pick up his option and truth be told if he is healthy I am fine with it...worst case he gets hurt again and then its over just dont resign him in 2011.
