The NBA should make this legal somehow. As is jumpballs sucks anway and possession arrow isn't the solution either. Just tweak the jumpball in a way, so it's less reliant on height/jumping ability and more reliant on smarts/skill. I don't know how to do it myself, but I don't get paid to think about it, either.
Yeah, they should make it more like hockey -- just put the ball on the floor and let the two players swat at it with their hands. Spoiler LOL, no
Well, feel free to disagree, but as I look at it, as is, the jump ball just takes up a lot of time and isn't very exiting at all. Again, I haven't giving it much thought, but there has to be a way to make it more exiting than is Allow players to not jump and pursue the ball. Maybe tweak the rules on where players are allowed to stand. Add an element that let's teams come up with different schemes.
I'm not very familiar with the jump ball rules, but how is that a violation? They should allow that just on sheer awesomeness lol.
Instead of a jump ball, why not dunk it out for who gets the ball. One chance, no redo. That would be much more exciting, aside from the obvious time wasting.
Easy solution: 1) let each team choose who their jumper is 2) throw it up at mid court every time 3) make each player stand at the edge of the circle A) That way it's easier for the ref to throw up a fair ball, b) the players get a few steps, so their verticals will be higher (more entertaining). Think of it as two players contesting for a high/long rebound.
I'm sure that was illegal somehow, but that was brilliant. But why did he immediately take a contested jumpshot after grabbing the ball?
I think I prefer NCAA rules for this. Just alternate who the ball goes to on a tie up. It keeps things simple.
I prefer the NBA rule over the NCAA rule. An actual jump-ball at least rewards the defense for making a good defensive play.
Thats too funny. Although I think its better if the league adopt a possession ruling like college instead
