    Today from USA Today:

Interesting that all the talk has been about the Harden/Howard PnR (and for good reason)... but what are the chances Jeremy's had private conversations with Dwight (while in Taiwan, perhaps) about his own involvement in the PnR game?

Jeremy's last quote seemed to leave things more open than I expected. Especially this deep into the offseason. It probably means nothing. Who knows anymore. What's pretty certain is he's tired of answering the same questions about his future in Houston.

My understanding of this quote was referring to the rumor that Taiwan would like Jeremy to play for their national team, not his situation in Houston.

However, this is more interesting. Does Howard really like to play pick and roll or not? How would Houston run it differently from Lakers?

You may be right. Do you have a link to that interview?

USA Today attributed his quote (about the uncertainty of his future) to the preceding statement:

I really hope you're right, though.

Ok, I just watched the video... and it isn't clear. Wonder if there's an available transcript of that press conference?

He said that multiple times when he was in Taiwan, since that question came up a lot.

When he was asked about the trading rumor, his answer is something like: traded or not is not what he could control, what he can do is just train hard and improve. He is playing for god, thus no matter what team he is playing for, he would try to play his best, use his 100% effort.

You can tell the difference in these two answers. Since whether he got traded or not is not his decision, thus the quote "I have not make any decision yet" does not apply here.

Got it. Makes a lot of sense. Appreciate the clarification.

Now, how do we get USA Today to issue a correction? ;)

Lin noncommittal on playing for Taiwan's national team

    2013/08/14 16:58:32

Taipei, Aug. 14 (CNA) Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin did not rule out the possibility Wednesday of being recruited by Taiwan to play on its national basketball team.

"I try not to think too far," Lin, the first NBA player of Taiwanese descent, said at a press conference in Taipei.

"I can't speak for the future ... I'm not making decisions until the time is appropriate."

Lin answered nearly all the questions raised during the press conference in Mandarin, but chose to answer one about his interest in playing for Taiwan in English, describing it as "very important."

The possibility of Lin playing for Taiwan was raised when the national basketball team came close to qualifying for next year's Basketball World Cup in Spain at the recent FIBA Asia Championship.

Having reached the tournament's semifinals after a remarkable 96-78 rout of China, Taiwan only needed one more victory to finish in the top three and secure an automatic World Cup berth.

But losses to Iran in the semifinals on Aug. 10 and to South Korea on Aug. 11, dashed those hopes.

Lin said he did not follow the whole game against South Korea but watched some of the highlights on YouTube, and congratulated Taiwan on its fourth-place finish and overall performance, its best showing since 1999.

Though Taiwan lost out on an automatic World Cup berth, seemingly making Lin's participation moot in the immediate future, the issue could still come up if Taiwan opts to put up a 500,000 euro fee and vie for one of the World Cup's four wild card spots.

No decision has been made on whether to mount such a bid, but it would almost certainly require incorporating a player of Lin's stature and marketability to have any chance of success.

Lin arrived in Taiwan earlier Wednesday at the start of an eight-day visit and was greeted by enthusiastic fans at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

During his visit, Lin will attend charity and endorsement events arranged by his sponsors and take part in an evangelical gathering Aug. 18.

The 24-year-old Harvard graduate and his friend, Rockets forward Chandler Parsons, will also co-host a basketball camp for Taiwanese high school and college students Aug. 18-20.

He is scheduled to leave Taiwan for China Aug. 21.

    Howard speaking on Jeremy Lin:

DH: "I'm excited. I can't wait. I think we're going to have an unbelievable season together."

If you just go by LA Howard, he also don't want to play defense. Nor does he want to play with a star. Nor does he want to do much of anything. Putting stock into LA Howard is pointless because in the end, he hated it there.

And even then, an injured half-assing Howard who didn't bother to set the best of picks was still one of the best P&R big in the NBA. Which really is incredible if you think about it.

One thing i really like when running the Lin-Howard Pick & Roll is that we will have Harden and Parsons spotting up for threes which is lethal.

The Rockets is fast and better spacing team.

Howard will enjoy Pick and Roll more than in Lakers.

So we can make room for threads about how Morey doesn't understand "clutch"?

Any player in the NBA that's not a superstar max player, shouldn't ever say that they are a player for life with the current team they are with.... especially if they are playing for a team managed by Morey.

Jeremy leaving the question open about him (assuming) being traded is normal NBA player speak. Morey obviously gauged interest in him at the very least this Summer so there is inclination that he might be traded at some point.

If the reporter was trying to insinuate that he is going to leave on his own terms sometime soon then that's just a stupid question that really doesn't deserve an answer. Jeremy doesn't have the power to force a trade and he has two more years on his contract till free agency.

Jeremy Lin LEAVING the Rockets is a non-discussion, or should be, with the media and fans. If he's not going to be a long-term Rocket for the foreseeable future Morey will trade him well before he gets the chance to test the market in free agency.
