Cassell plans to play against Lakers
Veteran guard will try to help L.A. end three-game losing streak
By Jason Reid, Times Staff Writer
    April 12, 2007

    Getting to the point

Concerned the Clippers might miss the playoffs, Sam Cassell plans to return to the lineup tonight against the Lakers at Staples Center.

"I think I am going to play," said Cassell, sidelined often because of injuries this season. "I'm going to get my butt off the shelf."

Cassell has sat out the previous four games because of back spasms. The condition had limited the 13-year veteran guard to 17 minutes in the last 11 games.

The Clippers have lost three in a row with a Western Conference playoff berth at stake, and Cassell hopes to make a difference with time running out.

"My whole goal was to play Sunday [against Sacramento], but we're desperate," Cassell said. "Not that I'm the savior, but with me on the court, I bring a calm factor, which is what we need.

"That's not knocking anyone on our ballclub. I'm the guy who makes the plays to either win the game or lose the game. With Shaun [Livingston] not here, and I'm not playing, it puts pressure on guys to make plays."

Hopefully the Lakers will grow a pair and at least try to win this one.

    Go Warriors!

Yeah. Take a rest, Sam. We don't want you winning this one.

Normally I would, but sorry, I want to see the Don Nelsons in the playoffs.

Love ya Sam I Am, like the Clips, but I want to see Warriors playing the Mavs...I am selfish that way.

I love Sam but he's done. You've got to know when to fold 'em and now is the time for him.

By the way, did anyone else see the Clips/Lakers game last week when the Clips were the "home" team? Their crowd was roaring, their offense was clicking and the Lakers were sluggish. For me, it was kinda of weird watching a game at Staples Center with the crowd cheering the other team. Today it's totally the opposite. Except for Maggette, the Clips look hungover from two days ago and the Lakers have serious pep in their step.

the Clippers looked like they were gonna blow out the Lakers in the first 7-8 mins of the game.

Lakers were breaking down defensively time and time again - then it was like Phil J or someone flicked a switch, and it was on.

D Collins pointed out the Clips started out 10-11 and then missed 22 of their next 26 shots!!

Kobe a lazy 25 already. Man is a freak show!!

Can't wait for the 2nd half. Make a game of it Clippers.

    Go Warriors!!!

Clipper and Laker both own tiebreaker over Warriors therefore Warrior needs to win at least one more game to the make the playoff

    53--69, Lakers leading in 3rd q....

    ;)

Warriors have the easiest remaining schedule. Great chance to win out. Mav's Dirk and Stackhouse wont play on road games.

Good, Lakers are leading and Kobe is in one of his 'zones', I don't think he will let the Clippers win tonight.

    Go Warriors!

lakers suck at closing out games b/c they never get stops that they need. not that it's automatic but i'd say clips are going to pull this one out. the lakers just make so many careless, little mistakes to submarine themselves.

Ouch! Maggette just got knocked the f out!

Sucks to be him right now, but it sucks even more being a Lakers fan when they've just blown a double-digit lead late in the game.

Hope they can still pull this one out...

Haven't had so much fun watching a game without any personal passion in a long time. It's great seeing these two desperate teams go at each other.
