My company is once again sending me to Rome for training, and I will be taking some vacation (up to a week) afterwards. I've previously visited Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome and Genova, so I'm leaning toward something less urban this time. I'll have vacation time from the evening of July 17th through the 24th or 25th. Obviously July is close to the peak of tourist season, but I'd like to avoid the truly ridiculous crowds (i.e. towns overrun by Cruise ship dropoffs). Also, this is rather last minute, so I realize hotel availability may be an issue. In any case, I've been looking at the following: Puglia region Elba and other Tuscan archipelago islands Sardinia (southern end) Aeolian islands I've already seen a lot of museums and old churches, so I'm mostly interested in lazing by the water and eating well. Any advice is appreciated - thanks in advance
Honestly, given your past travel history in Italy, along with your desire to be by the water, if I were in your position, I'd hop over to the Croatian coast. I've never been to Croatia myself, but it's #1 on my list of summertime European destinations.
I'm just coming back from a long weekend in the south of Sardinia (a place called Forte Village resort). The water was crystal clear and the beach very nice. Can recommend that area highly.
