Better than locking up Penny Hardaway's son for 4 years at $71 million

That's a great move on both sides. The Lakers get to spend their money on a possible low-risk, high reward guy, while Pope gets his money and a shot to show what he can really do on a young team that needs talent.

If it doesn't work out, both sides can move on.

why do people think this guy is good? I just checked last years stats.

    in 33 min, he shot 40%fg, 35% 3p, 14pts

And that's in the East. Mediocre at best. What am I missing?

I have the same question. Saw little of Detroit last year so maybe potential since he is still young.

Some reports that they are also trying to sign Rondo.

I thought he was Detroit's best player. Good player making less than Fly Ry.

Oh man that's such a bad deal for LA. What's the point in over paying someone for one year when you're rebuilding? I love watching them burn. They are so used to being a destination they have no idea how to navigate through free agency.

I think it's great for them. They get a solid young player with upside, while preserving cap flexibility for next offseason.

Yeah but if he shows upside he won't be under contract anymore

They can cross that bridge if they get to it. I don't see any downside to this move at all. What else were they going to do with their cap space this season? Most important thing was to not cut into next year's cap space.

They aren't rebuilding anymore, at least not as badly as before. They just want to sign 1 year deals now and then open their arms for Paul George and maybe Westbrick in FA next year. I think it's a good deal for them because they obviously want to make a splash next year.

This is the difference between LA Lakers Mgt and Philly's new management. Both did the same thing (sign 1 year contract), but LA clearly has a plan and vision for what they want to do. Philly just messing around blindly, they should be tanking not signing good vets like Reddick who will just give them a lower pick next year.

I think the factors are: 1) he has upside, being 24-years-old, and 2) in Detroit's crappy offense, he had to create and take quite a few touch shots.

Look up who KCP's agent is.
