    I definitely don't understand it.

Are they going to be capable of opening max cap or not? I've seen like 10 different reports each saying yes and no.

Imagine a car mechanic not knowing the ramifications of removing an engine from the car.

They could have used a real GM.

I think as it stands right now they have ~$80 million in committed salaries including Luol Deng’s cap hit. The salary cap is set at $109 so they have about $29 million in cap space IF AD waives his trade kicker. If he doesn’t then that’s another $4 million taken off. They could get close to max space if they move every single player except for AD LeBron and Kuzma like the article states but I’m thinking they’re going to have to cough up picks to get it done. Of course those picks are pretty much controlled by Griffin right now.

Meanwhile, when you do have Daryl Morey, you work out Ben McLemore

I hate calling everything fake news, but this sounds like fake news. I mean maybe it's possible but check out Pelinka's background tell me how likely it is that he doesn't understand the cap.

The Lakers don't even have to know the rules and it still works out for them. There is no way they should have been so bad for so long when it is so easy for them. The amount of ineptitude must have been at maximum levels.

Dumbass Pistons just eat Snell contract for a freaking 30th pick, i expect the Lakers to find someone who will take on Wagner and Bonga fairly easy.

Lakers would like to do the deal on July 30th, while Pelicans assumed it would be consumed on July 6th.

Deal on July 6th: Davis gets into cap space, no salary for another max free agent

Deal on July 30th: Along other players that were already in place, they can deal 4th pick that they signed after drafting him. You can't trade drafted players before July 30th (remember Wiggins/Love?). Until then, they can sign max free agent and THEN trade for Davis over cap space.

Pelicans have no incentive to wait until July 30th unless Lakers can sweeten the deal. Pelinka should specify they want the trade to happen on July 30th. Because he didn't, Lakers are off worse for it.
